Teacher gift...

Discussion in 'Discussion Group' started by crazymom2girls, Jun 9, 2009.

  1. I want to get my daughter's first grade teacher a gift. She was been an excellent teacher to my little girl. I want to get her something besides a mug or lotion (which they get tons of I heard!) I can't spend a huge amount. What do yall suggest. The thing that pops out first in my mind is a gift certificate to get a manicure/pedicure, but where? I usually go to Raleigh but is there a good place around here?

My son's teacher is a chocoholic, so last night I bought various kinds, arranged them in a gift basket and shrink wrapped it so it wouldn't get eaten by anyone other than the teacher, LOL. I probably had $10 in the whole thing. Recycled basket, some shredded stuff and the shrink wrap from Dollar Tree plus the chocolate. It turned out cute.

As the husband of a teacher, and on her behalf, I want to say thanks. A gift is not necessary. If you still feel this strongly about it, I do know that she gets her nails done at the Wal Mart in Clayton.

Perhaps it's just me, but given the state of the economy now, and trying to support local families at work, if it was mine, I'd like something that supports the local economy.

Again, without consulting her, but having seem this year after year, the best gift one can give to a teacher is solid support of the student. Anything else is icing on the cake.

My significant other is a teacher also. She gets tons of gifts at Christmas and at the end of the year. I can tell you that everything is appreciated but if you want to buy something, gift certificates and gift cards are the best bet. They dont have to be in large amounts to be appreciated. She has been given several $5.00 cards to Starbucks, etc over the years and believe me, I...I mean she loves them..

Home made goods or crafts are also nice.

What about a really nice letter from you and your child letting her know how great you think she is and maybe a special picture of your child and teacher in a frame....something she will have forever.

A thank you note telling him/her how much you appreciated them and the exceptional job they did with your child.

My son wanted to get his teacher a gift and came up with the idea of getting her things for the next school year, he picked out a gift bag and got stickers of her favorite animal and decorated the bag, then picked out a pencil holder, a clipboard, a notebook, some pens, pencils and highlighters. He said "I know she will use them!!!"

Honestly, anything you give to her, she'll love! When I finished my student teaching last fall my 2nd graders all made me cards, and a few gave me handmade gifts. These are sentiments I will treasure for a very, very long time!

  13. Thanks for all the wonderful advice. I decided on nice card with a note and a package from the Lindt store at the mall because she loves chocolate. It was very hard for me to go in there and not buy something for myself! I'm off sweets until the weekend!
