I have never rented a car in my life and will be for the first time next month when I fly up to NY. I was hoping to rent a SUV since there are 5 of us, with luggage, but looking at prices online that seems to be out of the question! My question is...there seem to be 1000 different websites to check, with very different prices. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find the best prices? Any companies to avoid, any that are very good? Enterprise seemed to be twice as much as everyone else, not sure why. Any good places to get coupons? I used to see them all the time when I didn't need them! I'll be renting Thursday-Monday, so a long weekend coupon would be great!
If you belong to AAA, Allstate Motor Club, Sams Club. . .even some Entertainment books and some others, you may be able to get coupons through them for upgrades, or free days. Priceline.com used to do rental cars, don't know if they still do, it's been a couple of years since I rented one through them, but that was a good deal. I've rented through Enterprise a number of times and found them fairly comparable - SUVs were pretty inexpensive last year during the gas hike - a couple of the rental companies were offering upgrades to them without you even asking for one. Shop around - and do check out Priceline to see if they still do it.
Slickdeals.net has a listing for National offering last minute weekly rate starting at 99.00. Sorry, didn't know how to make it a live link.
I may be able to get you a discount from my friend. I'll need more info - call me tomorrow. 796-5284 Sandy
yes. I always bring my own though. They do not charge as luggage..or at least they have not in the past. Wish me luck, I am flying with my 2 tomorrow, w/out hubby. Ugh, then renting the car when I get there.
Good luck! I have flown with only 1 child on my own, and they were always babies at the time, and was always pleasantly surprised at how helpful people were. Some places more than others, but still...One time my son was just 4 months old, my mom hadn't seen him yet so I flew up to NY to surprise her for her 50th bday with him, I was on my own with him and all his crap, ie stroller, carseat, diaper bag, etc. Not fun, but still went smoothly! Have fun, wherever you're going! (back home?) How much is it to rent carseats, boosters, anyone know? With hauling 3 kids around an airport, and at the risk of losing luggage, I'd rather rent if it's not too much!
Yes most car rental websites will offer it as an option. I don't know what the charge is, but you will typically get an opportunity to review the quote before purchasing. National Rental Car is the company I typically use.
