My washer sounds like there's a whole flock of hungry baby birds in it. I assume this means I need to start saving up for a new one, but meanwhile is there some simple fix that will extend its life? I've only had it since the mid 90's, it seems like they should last more than 12 or 14 years.

It could be something as simple as the drive belt or an easy to replace bearing.

So maybe I should have somebody take a look at it.

It depends on whether you really want a new one or not. It is a gamble, but if you can get a cheap diagnostic it would give you the best idea on which way to go.

What brand is it? I have a front loading Kenmore. I had trusted it to a local person to fix but I got alot of excuses. I ended up making an appointment with Sears to come to fix mine. They are coming on Tuesday.

It's a Gibson. I'd like to have a Whirlpool or LG front loading pair, but I was hoping to keep these going for a couple more years. Or at least until I sell my house. Which might be a couple more years anyway.

Are you sure it's a washing machine and not a piano? :)

Ha! That might explain some of the strange noises, since I am no musician!:lol:

Sears just left. Had to put in a new bearing and a new stainless steel tub. The tub had a 25year warranty on it. So it didn't cost me and on top of it the balance was73.50 less then what they had quoted me.

The machine works great. Next time a major appliance goes down I call the professionals.
