I'm at my wit's end! Have been having trouble with the check engine light coming on and giving a code that the egr flow was insufficient. We replaced the valve and cleaned everything that runs to and from it. Light went out for 2 weeks. Came back on this morning!!!!! BUT, until I go to Auto Zone tonight to get them to read the code I'm not sure that it is the EGR problem. Been having another strange thing happen. When I first start it in the mornings it acts like it doesn't want to run. It shakes and this morning knocked off 3 times in the driveway. Once I get it going and driving it is fine. I'm not low on gas and I have bought gas from different stations. Any ideas? Fuel filter? I'm leary of taking the car to the beach next week because of this.
Put the make, model and year with the symptom in google and you should get quite a few hits on the exact problem others have had. EX's: "2005 chevy lumina stalling" _____"2005 chevy lumina egr problem" etc..
do you have the electronic EGR valve or the EGR flow sensor? If it is the plastic one with two black tubes coming off of it, those rubber tubes in the back get plugged up with carbon, and can cause problems... Most common in the Ford SUV's... Good Luck finding the problem hun... I would not trust Auto Zone to tell me anything about my car... most of the people there don't have a clue... JMO..
They've done good by me. And as long as the code reader is correctly placed, the OBDII is fairly easy to figure out.
I'm gonna say we have the electronic EGR valve. I remember hubby saying it had a little motor on top of it. We just replaced it a month ago. It's driving me crazy. Every time we think it's fixed the engine light comes on again. I absolutely love the vehicle and don't want to get rid of it. I agree about Auto Zone but they are the cheapest on the parts.
Do you think this is something that will likely put me on the side of the road? Should we not take this vehicle to Myrtle Beach? UGH! I really don't want to have the take DD's car and be squished the whole way. lol
I think we are closer to the North Myrtle end of town. We'll be at the Caribbean Resort. I believe it is on 29th Ave. North? Where will you be? CORRECTION - the addy is 3000 North Ocean Blvd.
We are staying in the Windy Hill area - rented an ocean front condo at Pier One, we're going Sat-Sat. We will have 5 teens (2 are mine) I hope they behave!
I am so jealous...I loooove the beach...I used to live in Myrtle Beach it was great... I honestly cannot say whether or not it will mess up on the trip...I know in my past experience it is better to not chance it, but it is usually my luck that if there is a problem it is going to strand me... I got stuck in the middle of the road on Halloween night in 97 in labor with my son, on the way to my mother's house cause she was too lazy to come and get me for the hospital...axle in my van broke...:banghead: I made it though. how I have no idea...lol I would bet that the tubes leading to the EGR are plugged up...that is what is causing the engine light and the rough running... AutoZone has cheap prices, and when they plug in the OBDII and give you a code great....but when they try to sell you everything under the sun, and stuff that the unknowing customer has no idea is not needed...that makes me really mad... They tried to tell me that my 40 year old pickup truck took the 9 dollar a piece double platinum spark plugs, instead of the 1.99 copper core plugs that it came with in 1968!!!! I just hate pushy sales people... As far as whether or not to try the drive....I would personally do it, but only if I had someone who could try to fix it if it were to break down... that is a judgement call... Good Luck sweetie...
I've never heard of Windy Hill. I'll have to look that up. We can only afford to go for 4 days  but that will be long enough because we are taking 4 teens (only 1 is mine, plus her boyfriend and her best friend and her boyfriend) and 2 other adults. It should be interesting to say the least
We're at 3701 N Ocean blvd. Windy Hill is pretty close to Barefoot Landing. Next time look into vrbo.com (vacation rental by owner) we saw lots of great deals there. If we'd gone much further down, closer into North Myrtle it gets more expensive. Our rental was through Myrtlegrandvacations.com and they were offering lots of good deals this summer because of the economy. I just hope we have good weather!
So we're only 7 blocks away from each other?!? I'm gonna go down the street at night hollering "Band Mom, where are you? Come out wherever you are!!!" Watch for me . . . I'll be the fat girl with the hot pink bikini on the beach . . . I sure hope those damn kids don't keep trying to put me back in the water this year :jester:
