Don't let em get to ya. Just get him something along the lines of what he likes. Whether most men like it or not. If you don't get it right exactly he'll appreciate you really thinking about it anyway. Maybe even a little basket full of little things he may like.

It's just buying something for a relative that you don't see much is really hard. You want to get something nice but you also want to get something they will enjoy.

Seriously, if he was pretty open about it, get him a male stripper. Oh, if it doesn't kill him it may get you added to his Will. Downer for the Girls, but one of my Mothers best friends was a stripper at a Girls Strip joint, he and many of his compatriots were Gay as hell.
