Looking for a good mexican restaurant

There used to be a wonderful mexican restaurant on 70, almost to 42 overpass (by Matthews Motors and on the same side of the road). It was called Panchos. It was my personal favorite.

It closed a few months ago. The sign said it was closed for renovations. I noticed the other day that (I think) there is a new mexican restaurant there. Has anyone been? If so, how is it?

Panchos was by far my favorite local mexican restaurant. I have tried Fiesta Mexicana by CiCi's on 70, and the Mexican restaurant on 42 by the dry cleaner. Now I know that the one by the dry cleaner is probably a wonderful mexican restaurant, but I personally didn't care for it.

So, any suggestions for other mexican restaurants? Has anyone tried the one in downtown Smithfield?

La Cocina can't be beat. I've tried the others, except the one on Main St................no comparison.

La Cocina is our favorite! We've never had a bad meal or bad service there. Their food has more flavor to us than the other places.

Is this located at White Oak Cinema? My wife thought she saw a sign for La Cocina when she left Target today.

It's the same people. There are several La Cocina's in the area. The one at White Oak is just as good as the one in Clayton. Clayton's is behind the Shiny Diner.

Thanks for the speedy reply! Good to know! I think the White Oak location is closer for us. Hope to try it next week!

Oh, you have to try Festejos, it is excellent and the best in Clayton imo. It is basically at the corner of Hwy 70 and Main St, behind the new NY Deli sammich place.

Have they hired more help? I love the food, but the last two times I went the service was terrible! Would love to go back, if it is now improved. It was the best mexican food I have ever had, but not worth the wait on service.

We have always had great service. We sit in the smoking section and always have the same waiter, he's great!

My favorite has always been El Dorado in Garner, but never get out there. Tried La Cocina the other day for the first time and I loved it! (the White Oak location). My son loves El Cerro at 40/42, but I don't care for it.

I am really surprised with the comment about poor service. We go there all the time. Many times with 6-8 friends. Never had a service problem.

El Dorados in Fuquay - we have to go at least every other week for our "fix" of taquitos and chips and cheese dip! YUMMY! Wish I could go more often but my scales and blue jeans say NO, NO, NO!!! :) We have tried lots of other Mexican restaurants, but always go back at El Dorados in FV, love it!

Festejos we love that place. We have never had bad service there either. I love the one at 42 also. Very nice and freindly people.

We ate at Burro Loco in Myrtle Beach last weekend. It was awesome.
Locally, I agree with the original post that Pancho's used to be good. Back then they pretty much had a monopoly in Clayton. Now it's usually La Cocina, but it seems to have slipped a little since a bunch of the employees left to open the one at White Oak.

I like El Cerro at 40/42 across from Food Lion. I've only been there twice, but the meal was excellent both times, and the staff is very friendly.

My wife was impressed with the super clean bathrooms.
