That's just pure BS. When you ask for a dollar raise and your making a lousy $15 an hour as a 20 yr highly skilled tradesman and the boss tells you, "Why should I give you a dollar more when there's 2 barefoot Mexicans standing out back waiting for your job. And I get 2 for 1 and I won't have to pay any benifits."

Just remember, you bought that house that those two barefoots built. When that shotty construction starts to fail you can call them to come back from Mexico to fix it.

Lets hope you get the same treatment in your trade one day and then lets see who'll be screaming.

Seems I was correct. Americans won't stand by legal Americans in defense of illegals stealing their jobs. Thanks for the support fellow Americans.

You speak of legals. My comments are on illegals. And I think your comment would lead people to believe that I consider all immigrants as bad and in general, Mexicans. With Mexico holding the upper most reaches of the charts for total illegals in America it’s not necessary to quantify the good and the bad, nor would it logically come to question.

Any immigrant here legally has my support and encouragement to use the freedoms provided to succeed. Right down to taking a job for lesser money than others. Although, legally entering the United States typically prevents that from happening. That's a partial reason why we have imigration laws.

He can also have the assurance that if someone treads on his livelihood, thru an illegal action, I will defend & support his right to seek justice. If your adaptation in careers came from an illegal action please fill us in?

I would not pawn him off as an incurable system problem if enforcing the law will cure it. The complacency in which Americans tolerate the breach of law in this issue is an indignity in citizenship. I guess if you don't value your own citizenship then why worry if others steal it? Citizenship is something best learned in war.

I'm sorry, but I believe when in Rome. . .so the majority of these workers are hispanic? Why then not REQUIRE them to learn English? (or at least enough to get by)

Sincerely, this is F'd up - IF an American or any foreigner moves to Mexico, they can NOT take any job that a Mexican laborer is capable of doing. . .it is the law there. You can buy a business, but you must employ Mexican workers - you can not take work away from the local people - PERIOD!

This country is too freaking easy for illegal immigrants to enter, find homes, work, and even qualify for medical assistance and other programs while they are ILLEGAL! WTH? What is it about the word 'illegal' that no one understands?

As for the legal ones, well there are plenty of FREE programs for them to learn English. No excuses - in the late 1800's the majority of my family came here from Germany - they all learned English. . .some (the younger ones) became very fluent in English, while the older ones spoke well enough to carry on a conversation. If they could manage it in the 1800's without the internet, free programs, or government assistance, then I see no reason why in this day and age we have to make exception for anyone who comes here to live. The border lies south of the US - just let them head in that direction if they don't wish to make an effort.

    I could not agree more!!!
Not just because I have a soft spot for you since your family originally came from Germany and me being German myself:)

I agree with all of this but.....at the same time there is a reason folks are learning Spanish in American schools. It gives them a leg up in the job market. To the victor go the spoils.

another reason for them not to try to learn the language, why should they when we are so accomodating to their language:evil:

I don't think it's so much that it gives people a leg up in the market place I think it is more of that fact that we as a country are bending over and taking one for the team to keep from having civil unrest, by requiring "them" to learn English.

yeah, that is basically what i was trying to say, but i still think we are being way too accomodating and can't expect them to stray from their native language when there is no reason to

I agree that all immigrants need to learn to speak basic english. But the reality of my situation in Healthcare is that I need to learn to speak spanish. It is a pain in butt and a waste of my time to get an interpreter on the phone and ask medical history and current problem questions, takes at least twice as long. I know basic spanish but to legally treat this population i need the whole story. I will say this though...when a hispanic comes to the emergency department the majority of the time their problem is REAL compared to some of the native population!

    just my 2cents

The same with my husband who is a police officer. You can't help people if you can't communicate with them. No way around it although I can tell you that my husband is far from fluent.
