I lost my beautiful bodyguard this morning with almost no warning. She was sick yesterday so I took her to the vet and found out she had pancreatitis. She came back home with me with meds and oral rehydration solution and seemed to be perked up last night. This morning she was vomiting like crazy and I rushed her back to the vet but she died in the car on the way.

There were no symptoms that we could see until it was too late. She seemed fine, playing and eating well on Sunday. We will miss her so much.

Thank you so much. I have to go do something productive and stop thinking about this for a while. Danged little critters really work their way into your heart, ya know? She was 12. I brought her back home to bury her. DH is a wreck.

    Rainbow bridge

I know the following poem is probably over used, But when ever I read it I remember pets I have had in the past and have lost. When ever I read this poem it still brings a tear to my eye and helps me to remember my beloved pets from the past. I hope you can find some comfort in this poem as I do:

    THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I just lost one of our beloved dogs this year and have never experienced pain like what my heart went through. It's true that time helps, but there will always be that hurt. We got a bunch of pictures of Boomer and got a frame with a lot of spots and put it up in the living room. I'm sorry for the suddenness and sadness. But your pup is playing with all of the others that have passed. Including my Boomer. She's in good company.

I have always thought of myself as someone who knows the difference between pets and people, but wow, this is hard. I keep finding her stuff and can't stop crying. She was the first dog we've had together, and this was the longest I ever had any pet in my life. I'm sorry for my other dog; she is wandering all over the house looking for her. She knew something was wrong and now she's really acting depressed. I know they sense our moods also so when we start feeling better she probably will too.

Anyway, it's nice to have all this support and it really does help to "talk" about it some. Thanks.

Oh yes, like Seabee said, she lived a very good life and was well-loved and very spoiled!

Peaches, I'm so sorry for your loss.

As most of us know our *pets* are family members.

My time with your babies have been very short, but wonderful to say the least. She met me at the car when I came to your house one time and I swear I thought she was gonna chew my legs off, but she was the sweetest thing ever! She was doing what she was supposed to do, protect the house and family.

There are a couple of us who have a (what I would call a make shift) memorial for our pets. First is was KC and then me, then Bren. Now it's your turn. We talk about the good times, have a couple of beverages and just remember them. We share pictures and stories about how they impacted our lives.

I'll call you tomorrow to schedule our memorial.

We all feel your pain and I'm very sorry.

Oh boy....why did I come back on here tonight? You all have me crying again! So nice, thanks so much. HG, I dug out some old pictures of Griz when she was 8 weeks old, 6 pounds. Cutest puppy EVER.

    Nite.

Peaches, Sympathies for your loss, its so hard to say goodbye to our beloved furry kids. One day you will remember your beautiful girl with a smile instead of the tears and heavy heart you have now.

Friend, please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.

My body is gone but I'm always near.
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.

I'll never wander out of your sight-
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach-
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.

I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.

I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.

When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.

I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
Just look for me, friend, I'm everyplace!
