i am about to become the proud Mama of 2 new birds, well not exactly new, one is 5 and the other is 15 but they are new to our nest. Of course they are rescues, the very nice man's job is demanding too much time away now and he does not have time for them. They are a male and a female yellow naped Amazons and so very talkative - we went and met them last night and will pick them up tonite:hurray:

I love my birds, but that Zon's are one bird I would never own. I have seen their moods and what the can do..very moody birds. I have total respect for people who are owned by them! They are smart as whips though. Congrats on the newest family members!
Really, we rescued some Conyers one time, and couldn't wait till someone could take them off our hands.
i am sure that it is how they are raised just like dogs, they are very sweet, little girl told me "love you" this morning i have raised and birdsat pretty much every kind of bird and Amazons are one of the most intelligent and sweet ones but like i said it depends on how they are raised i guess, even the most gentle natured bird can turn moody and dangerous when they are left without socialization in a cage. LMAO at Hught, i know what you mean, Conures are one of the loudest screamers and smallest of "parrots". My one Blue Crowned Conure is so much louder than all the rest and the rest of the birds could all probably swallow her whole but they are good birds for first time bird owners after cockatiels:lol:
I don't know what it is with conures, but I just have a bond with them..no matter what ones I come across I can always win them over lol, maybe it's their size, not sure..but I'm not a quaker person either, everyone that I have even tried to come close to bit me lol, they are funny as heck though. Both, my Blue crown conure and my sun conure talk, not very common with the sun conure..he is so funny thought when he talks.
The males are the moody ones I have found with the Zon's...when they are in their season they are something else. Yellow naps I'm not to crazy about, but I do like the blue fronts. Getting started with my experience was with a very well know rescue up in MI. (she is now down here and I'm so excited to get back into the rescue and working with her again) I guess I learned the ins and out of what they can do as far as damaged. I have also seen the breeding part and handfeeding ect. My conures aren't loud, I taught them another way when they were babies to calm that screaming. I fostered another blue crown back in the day and I was like OMG, my Paulie isn't like that at all. I wouldn't trade my conures for nothing. I also don't recommend them for first time bird owners, there is no compairing them with Teils. IMO
My 13 year old son would like a bird of his own.... any suggestions on a 'quiet' but affectionate bird? LOL He would love a talker. We have fostered several birds and he fell in love with our last Cockatoo, they are just too loud for our house. (and yes I know at 13 this will be my job- as much- if not more than his.) If anyone hears of a good bird for adoption let me know!
i will keep my ears open for ya and thanks to you and R, did a great job with the new babies:hurray: We had a household full of children this weekend, about a dozen on Saturday and 5 on Sunday and those birds were wonderful with them, very easy to hold and they could not get over how they talked and sang - yeah, i think they are in their forever home now:hurray:
