Hello Clayton area pet lovers! My name is Eric Davis and my wife is Karen. We recently moved to this area and are thinking of pursuing our life's passion of opening a Doggie Daycare and Boarding business. We would offer daycare/boarding for well behaved dogs in a climate controlled open kennel environment (with separate kennels overnight of course). We are also VERY passionate about rescue and adoptions, so the facility would be used for that also. Here are a couple thoughts we would REALLY appreciate feedback on from you. 1. Location... Thinking of somewhere along (or just off of) The 70 Business between where 42 East intersects and I-40. Would that be convenient for YOU? Do you know of a suitable vacant facility? 2. Economic circumstances... Is doggie daycare/boarding recession resistant? Is that something you've cut out of your budget recently, or would you still use these services? Anyone with input, please share your thoughts with us. We would be investing quite a bit of money and would like all the info we could get before making big decisions. Thanks so much in advance! Eric & Karen Davis
I love your idea. I have 2 rescue greyhounds, one of them has a very high prey drive and she doesn't mingle well with small fluffy dogs. Would you separate small and large dogs? I would be very interested in a large fenced in area that I could let my girls have a good run in. I would be willing to pay a monthly fee. Economically I couldn't afford daycare on a regular basis and right now my husband and I work alternate days so someone is always home. Good luck I hope to hear more from you.:hurray:
Cathy - sounds like you might benefit more from a dog park than a daycare situation... Can't wait until/if the proposed dog park in East Clayton opens. Of course, I wish it were closer to 40/42 or downtown.
I'm talkin' thru my hat here, but it seems like what you need is a fairly high density, affluent population to create a client base. Much of the Clayton area is made up of low density housing, middle class folks; your best bet (IMHO, of course) would be to locate where the money lives and (IMHO, again) that's up NC 42 NE of town. Best of luck to you!
I love my dog, but I'm not paying for "Doggie Daycare" That's what my 10 year old and the back yard is for. 8)
I would love a dog park here. I haven't heard anymore about one opening. Is there a date and a definite place for one?
A very noble idea but I wonder how it would thrive in Clayton and more importantly in this economy. I doubt folks are taking many vacations and/or have extra cash lying around for such a service.
Oh Greyhounds are such beautiful dogs, and it's so sad how they are often treated after their "careers" are over. Generally speaking, we would not separate small and large dogs. If your dog gets along with nearly all other dogs, but only has a problem with a few, then we could work around that most of the time. Even still, oftentimes dogs behavior changes drastically (usually for the better) in a pack like environment. Some of the tendencies he has may diminish when in the presence of many other dogs. It's just something we would have to evaluate. Regarding fees, monthly type memberships could be something we would offer, or even a punch pass so you can use it any time you want. Thanks for the feedback! Eric
You're in luck! We will be fostering some rescued dogs* there and you could adopt one! Eric *Good dogs from the shelter that were at risk of being euthanized due to over crowding
i think it is a marvelous idea, darling I think your idea is fabuolous and would be great for people liike me. The dumby that likes he dogs to be able to do what they want. And stay happy. this is where we will bring our babies. There is one near us called bonevoyage. Bt they are not the greatest. I would love to see a full service place with plush grooming, beds around, blankets areound. Chew toys and balls. Nyway, I would like to see one in this area :grouphug::hurray:
That's great to hear. FYI, we will be offering grooming on site. You can add a full groom as part of your stay, or just a quick bath before you pick up your dog (nail trimming included). Each kennel is 5x10 and includes their own cot. But they're only in there at night, and by then they'll have had so much fun they will find the solitude of their kennel very relaxing. We've designed the facility with your dog's idea of a good time. Your dog will be able to run, play, and bark till it's heart's content. He or she won't even realize you're gone! And when you come for pick up, a tired dog is a good dog.
I'll go straight to the shelter to see Ernie & the boys when we are ready. I love them down there, they are super caring people. Thanks though.
: You wouldn't even consider adopting a dog from us? Consider... - You would be adopting from a registered 501c non-profit - The business (for profit) side of our organization donates time, money, and resources to rescue, foster, and adopt dogs and cats - The animals rescued come from the shelter (i.e."Ernie & the boys"), are screened, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and may have some training - When you adopt a dog from us, we are able to rescue another one from the shelter I'm glad you would choose to rescue an animal from the shelter. I'm just a little confused at the quick rejection of the offer. We're on the same team as the shelter....
Dude, don't take this the wrong way. I used to volunteer at the JCAS and would go there. I know what happens. I hope you make 50 billion dollars with your new business venture, you are doing almost exactly what I would do as a business if i had my choice. Good Luck to you! HG out!
Doggie Daycare If you do decide to open a business please consider offering a discount/deal for: -multiple dogs from the same family (being boarded at the same time) -frequent stay discounts (like frequent flyer miles!) -stay 5 nights get one free (or half price) -discounts for rescues/fosters (with proof of shelter/rescue affiliation) Good luck on your business and let us know when you open.
Hi, my name is Brianna and I'm 15. I think this is an excellent idea. I have 3 dogs and we have the hardest time finding someone to look after them when we are gone for something. So, this would be great. I suppose you would need help around the daycare and I would love to help out. I live like 15 mins away from 40 42. So, I'm not too far away. But just let me know. Thanks.
Hi there! Thank you so much for your suggestions. We will absolutely be offering discounts for frequent customers, as well as multiple pets at the same time. For daycare we will be offering punch cards at a discounted rate. Boarding will decrease in average daily price for longer stays. Regarding discounts for fosters, FOR SURE! Any fosters for any rescue group will get a discount on their foster pet as well as their own personal pets. As an organization we are establishing a non-profit division which will rescue, foster, and adopt dogs and cats. We will have animals on-site that are available for adoption. We will also be sponsoring fosters. This means if you foster animals through our organization, you get free boarding passes, daycare passes, further discounts, etc. We're very excited! Working with zoning and planning department right now and will keep everyone updated on our progress.
Hi Brianna, Thanks so much for taking the time to give us your feedback. We love to see young people like you who love animals and want to get involved. We will have plenty of opportunities for you to help out both as a volunteer, and possibly employment when you're old enough to work. We look forward to meeting you and your dogs once we are open. Thanks again!
