We just recently got a new labradoodle puppy. He will be two months on Tuesday, and we have started our search for a place to train him within the next month or two. He is starting to understand his name now, but still likes to nip at the ankles and clothing. We are looking to taking him to obedience school and would love any suggestions that ya'll might have.

Also, any tips on the nipping? His little puppy teeth HURT!!

    Thanks!

    Our "nip-tips"

At two months the best thing to do is to always have a chew toy handy when he starts to nip. He's nipping because he needs to at this age.

Help him understand that biting toys is acceptable and biting flesh is not. You can do this by reacting as another dog would by making a yelping sound when he nips. If he continues, yelp louder, then turn your back to him until he calms down. Over time he'll catch on.

This worked for us with 9 pit-bull puppies we rescued from the shelter! Hope it works for you too!

Bone Voyage offers training (www.bonevoyageinc.com). I think they might even have a course starting this month.

I'm not sure I'd take him at such a young age though. Maybe 6-8 months old?

Once again agree. As a long time owner of Goldens/Labs/Setters, I'd consider serious obedience training to start at 6-8 months of age (each dog is different though), otherwise just routine puppy training at this age. These breeds have a tendency to stay puppies a very long time, even throughout their entire life, but the attention span usually doesn't kick in for them until about 6-10 months of age and even then it may be very short; play a lot, train a short amount of time, play a lot, train a short amount of time, give a lot of loving and praise etc.
Good luck and please have patience
