I'm in need a ceramic/bisque ready to paint life size squirrel..yes I said squirrel. My daughter has a project for school on the grey squirrel which is our state mammal (didn't know this lol), anyways she has got to either draw one, or paint one or do a model of one. Figure I could try and find a ceramic one for her to paint. Found some online, but don't want to pay the high shipping cost. I have tried craft stores, then someone told me to try and find a bisque one..but I'm not aware of a ceramic shop around here. Help anyone? Sheri
Isn't that paint your own pottery place still over in Clayton near Walmart? Can't remember the name though.
I'm not sure if I understand exactly what you're looking for...but there's a paint-your-pottery type place over by Walmart in Clayton, and one in Fuquay (went there once) and they have a ton of ceramic pieces to choose from. Not sure about a squirrel though . There's also some type of place across from AT plaza here at 40/42 you could maybe try?
The one in Clayton Is called the Pottery Camp... neat place. They provide everything & of course you can leave the peice there & go back as many times needed to finish it up before they cook it for ya. Doubt they have life size squirrel but then again ... they do usually have a good choice/variety of stuff in there. And perhaps if they don't have the squirrel, they could get one . Nice staff last time my girls & I went. We got hooked on it for a bit of time which got pricey but at least it was around the holiday time frame so we made gifts for gr'folks.
Gosh - don't I wish - used to go to a woman's house who was a ceramic instructor who had hundreds of molds to pick from and had her own kiln I used to paint a lot of old world santa's with stains. There used to be a place on Guy Rd. just up from the old grocery store but shortly after moving here, she closed and has been trying to sell the place since. I've not seen any place like that since moving to Clayton but would be interested in attending classes again.
What is the AT plaza, and no I don't get out much. This project is due on the 18th, so no time for going back and forth to paint it, I want it ready to paint..don't want to bother with the whole getting it "fired" either.
I don't think we have time to do the cooking part, project is due on the 18th, I went to their site and it wouldn't even be ready for 7 days after painting..don't have that kind of time. I did this with my mom when I was little, still have a couple of pieces we did as kids. I had fun with it..
The place in Clayton you don't have to go back & forth to complete it.... I just figured if it was huge & you get tired of painting on it.. Once done painting, you pay for it then pick it up in 2-3 days after they bake it and glaze it.
Well, I agree if your doing something that has a lot of colors, but thankfully she only has to paint like two colors, a lot of grey and a little bit of white on the chest. lol. Of course the eye color as well. It doesn't have to be life size, but that would be cool if it was. I'm mean the squirrels aren't that big. I will look them up again and see what I can find out. Thanks guys! Sheri
Maybe you could find one on the side of the road and just stuff it, lol  I bet redneck rich prolly already has one you could borrow. :jester: Sorry, I don't have any suggestions about the ceramic ones...........
There is also that new pottery place in Peddlers Village at the end. Can't remember the name of it though.
Thats an actual pottery shop that sells funtional pottery, I don't think you're going to find a squirrel there. I think the name of it is Lantern Hill Pottery... they are originally from the Seagrove area. http://www.lanternhillpottery.net/glaze_colors_at_a_glance.html
You don't have to refire the bisque, use a non fire glaze and they just spray it with a final clear coat. You can buy ceramics that have already been fired to bisque then you just paint them... It would only take a couple of days... Don't know anyone that deals in ceramics, I used to... GOOD LUCK GIRL!! There used to be a few dealers at the fairgrounds flea maket that had pecan art that just had to be painted and sprayed.
There is a place in Harnett County on Hwy 401 south that may have it. I don't know the name if it, but its just past Lafayette School on the right. They have pots and all kinds of ceramic type stuff. I think I bought a bird bath there once..( my parents live out there)
:cheers:Garden centers usually have concrete squirrels lifesize. Just paint it with acrylic paint, grey, black and white.... I've purchased them before and left them concrete grey...They look real!! Especially if you just came home from CDH>>> LOL:cheers:
