STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Police say a 61-year-old man annoyed with a crying 2-year-old girl at a suburban Atlanta Walmart slapped the child several times after warning the toddler's mother to keep her quiet.

A police report says after the stranger hit the girl at least four times, he said: "See, I told you I would shut her up."

Roger Stephens of Stone Mountain is charged with felony cruelty to children. It was unclear if he had an attorney and a telephone call to his home Wednesday was unanswered.

I'd have kicked his "6", if this was my child.

Wow!!! First, I can't believe the man was that rude to the mother. Kids cry ... it happens. My 2yr old has been known to cry in Walmart also ... usually because she wants something I have no intentions of buying for her. I may quickly finish my shopping & try to hurry out so we don't disturb other customers ... but I can't imagine what I would do if something like this happened. I would like to think I could remain calm enough to report the guy to the police so they could handle the situation correctly ... but I'm afraid I might visit the sporting goods section of the store & pick up a bat to teach this grumpy old geezer how to keep his mouth shut & keep his hands to himself.

When I read that Melynda, all I could mentally recall was the pinging sound from Drew Barrymore wailing on Rob Schneider with that aluminum bat in 50 First Dates....
    thanks...LOL
