May be it is just us males, but we are pretty good at squeezing the peaches and telling if they are for real. Of course the visual aspect of the check is critical.

We usually buy fresh produce at the stand on the corner of Cleveland Rd & Cornwallis Rd. They always seem fresher to us, and the price is competitive, if not cheaper. We had a problem with the sushi Lowes food offered, but we took it right back and got our money refunded. Lowes is pretty good about making things right; even when a product does not ring up the sales price, they refund your money and you get the product for free. It pays to look closely at your sales receipt; I never leave the parking lot without checking the prices. Sometimes it makes it worth the trip back in when things are not rung up correctly! :hurray:

I picked up each of the packages and looked at it from all sides, however the raspberries are bedded on some sort of white material(plastic?) that you can not peep through.

I remember shopping at the the old Winn Dixie where the church is now. A year or two after it opened it seemed like every time I shopped there I ended up with something that had expired. This is where I learned to check the dates on food, especially dairy products. I bought a gallon of milk there once that was actually lumpy. The date said it was OK.
One day I got so aggravated with all of the expired goods I went through the yogurt, cheese and sour cream section and pulled all of the expired packages out and set them on the ledge. I was hoping a manager would see me and come over but it didn't happen. It eventually got to the place where I wouldn't even go in there.

I don't see how its the produce manager's fault if my red delicious apple is mushy or my peach is mealy or my grapes are too soft.....to me, buying produce has always been a crap shoot.....and I have asked to sample some seasonal fruits, buy a bag of them after sampling and one or two still be unedible....it's just the way it is. Now if it happens repeatedly, then I get my panties in a wad.

Accually the produce employee, not just the manager is suppose to go through the dept on a daily basis and check for bad stuff, understandable they miss a few things here and there, but that is part of the job to do so. No one is perfect. :)
