Okay, still new to the whole high school thing so another quesiton--LOL. My daughter is saying this week & from here out they will have different time schedules for their classes everyday. I have no clue as to what she is talking about & this makes absolutely no sense to me if it is true. Can someone please seperate fact from fiction. Thanks. Also, does anyone know anything about drivers ed stuff over there? I know there is something the parents have to attend but teachers have sent me nothing on it & my daughter is sporactic at what she explains to me. She said we have to meet Sept. 20th but knows nothign about it or where to go. Stephanie--mom to 7
High schools in Johnston County will start later next week but I am unsure what time they start and end at the moment. Will ask the teen when she gets home. Teens must now take a class named Alive at 25 to be able to get a parking space at school...link is here: http://www.johnstoncc.edu/aliveat25yellowschool.aspx Sherry
My son took driver's ed over the summer at CHS. We had a meeting to attend before classes started to get him registered for the class. I found information on the school's website about it. The school sent nothing home so I got busy searching on my own. The district site has info as well. He still has to wait to get his 6 hours of drive time in, but he did the 30-something hour classroom portion and the 4 hour Alive at 25 part. The class was free, but the additional part was $25, I think. Have you tried searching the WJHS website for info? Good luck!
Thanks for all the help on the Driver's Ed thing. Now, big question here... does anyone know off hand a round about # for insurance on a teen driver? YIKES!!! I've heard anywhere from $1500 to $3000 per year. Does this sound around the # you guys got? I'm calling state Farm later but figured I'd ask on here as well. Thanks in advance.
Okay, read the driver's ed site on WJHS & am now even more *onf*sed. Do yo* go to all 6 *lasses or is it one *lass w/ same info six different times? I will *all b*t *onf*sed. Is the driver's ed *o*rse for st*dents after s*hool or d*ring? Do they go to alive at 25 before this driver's ed *o*rse? I am totally lost--LOL. No wonder my da*ghter *an't tell me anything. I'm ass*ming yo* need ins*ran*e before yo* start? Thanks for answering my st*pid q*estions. I am so far NOT liking this whole new world of high s*hool & all it entails--LOL. I'm s*re on*e games start, proms go on, I'll lose my mind. They grow *p way too fast.
Price will depend on many variables. Type of car, primary driver, etc. Once you figure those couple of things out just call your car insurance company and ask them for a quote. Example: When my daughter turned 15 we put her on my mother's car insurance. The car is an older Ford Tarus (sp) and I left my mother as the primary driver. When they turn 16 it is more for around six months then when they turn 18 and have not had problems the price is decreased. Mine is 17 1/2 and I believe the price, just for the increase on her) is around $600.00 per year. Remember, she is driving an old car and is not the primary. Girls are cheaper I think. Sherry
They don't give cheaper rates for girls anymore. Yes, older cars are usually less, but it also depends on what your coverage is - like just carrying liability vs a newer car that you can't afford to replace. All unexperienced drivers are treated the same as far as rates (meaning doesn't matter if you're 16, 27 or older) until you've been driving for 3 yrs, then the rates go down. Some companies give other discounts for good grades, no accidents etc. We have Farm Bureau, from what we checked, they are usually the cheapest. The driving part of Drivers ed is normally in the afternoons and Saturdays.
In NC you don't add your child to your insurance until they get their license, not required with a permit. When I added my child over a year ago for liability, comp & collision as a primary driver it was approx $2500 for the year. On his 17th birthday they dropped my premiums approx $700 since he had 1 yr of driving exp.
time changes, according to my Senior, every day has a different schedule Monday 1st block is 1/2 hour longer, Tuesday 2nd block is 1/2 hr longer, etc,etc and Friday get 1/2 hour for "club" time for Drivers ed, when my sophomore took it last year, We had to go to one "parent" meeting one night before the class , she had to go to classes for a two weeks 2:30 - 5:30 and then did her driving. for Insurance , I have my policy with Allstate and have my senior set as the primary driver on a car that I just have Liability on(it is parked in my driveway), he is covered driving all my vehicles. my insurance doubled when I added him.
Ours went up $1200. I was told by my insurance company that DD had to be listed as a driver while driving under her permit. My insurance did not go up until she got her license where she didn't have to have us in the car with her.
