My brother (stylish guy in his fourties) is looking at furniture which I think would/should reflect "his personal style". He asked what I think about Bassett Furniture. I know the name is reputable, but for some reason I picture traditional "grandma style" (no offense to grandma out there!) but well-made "solid" furniture. Has this brand changed or am I just confused (again)? Style, price and just your perception of the brand would help! I trust you guys more than any other info I find on the web....maybe I am confused! Thanks!

HomeGirl....WHY are you asking us about furniture??? :jester: Anyway...I remember when we built out LAST house (about 7 years ago) all the furniture we bought was either Lane or Bassett, and we really liked it all. Unfortunately I can't remember which was which, and it's all at the cabin now (coming back today finally!) so I can't look to see. But everything we bought was sturdy and very nice looking (not Grandma-ish) And we bought it from Home Comfort in Cary at the time. Sorry I wasn't more help.

Bassett is well known for quality oak furniture. We have had several pieces over the years including coffee and end tables, and a baby crib that lasted through several children, mine and my friend's when I handed it down, lol! We have had a great experience with Bassett as well as with Ethan Allen as far as pieces that age and hold up very well. Hope that helps!

I just bought a bed, nightstand and dresser from Bassett in July. I really liked the furniiture at the store, the only thing is... I still haven't gotten it yet! They said that wood furniture takes 3-6 weeks in the contract but it has been almost 9 weeks. I called customer service and they told me it was now on back order and they would call when they got it in the warehouse. Then they would schedule delivery. The only other place I have bought furniture from is Home Comfort and they deliver if not the same day, within a couple of days. I guess the jury is still out with me about Bassett, but I sure am sick of waiting!

We bought a living room set that we love. We have had it for 4 years and its held up nicely. We also bought a kitchen island with the country rugged look and its a nice piece. I would recommend buying from them and have him sign up for there mailing list. We get coupons from them all the time with 50% off the first piece and 40% off the rest you buy. I wish I still had it I would give it to you for him to use. If he is looking to save money craigslist is good as well you can get some nice stuff for cheap. If he is looking for a kitchen island I have mine on craigslist for sale. I cant use it anymore in my new house. Look for Bassett Kitchen island under furniture by owner.

    Bassett bedroom furniture

My husband and I bought a Bassett bedroom suite. It is very modern and still 'well made'. We were married in 2000 and that was our present to each other. We went to the Bassett store on Glenwood Avenue and they were way overpriced for us. We went to Bakers Family Furniture in Erwin (right off 421) and they saved us about $1500 dollars for the SAME EXACT bedroom suite we picked out at the Bassett Store. It is a family owned business and we go there for all of our furntiure. My husband had a leather couch before we were married (and we still have it and still in wonderful condition and we have a 7 year old boy!) Tell your brother to look them up and go there before buying from someone overpriced in Raleigh. I do not work there nor do I advertise for them. I am just a bargain seeker for higher brand stuff and don't settle until I find quality for a cheaper price.

I highly recommend Bassett. The only thing I wish we would have done different about our purchase is the color. It is an ebonized cherry color (looks black) with silver drawer pulls and also silver around bottom of dresser and night stands and chest of drawers. I can take a pic and send it to you if you would like. You never would think it was Bassett unless I told you. Very modern (not old school!) Tell your brother to go to or call this store before buying. Try to get style model number off the suite he wants so they will be ab le to look it up and order from it.
