Does anyone know exactly what percentage goes to the PTA? I really don't like it when they don't tell you how much the school will get. I looked onthe web pages but PTA is still working on the website. Got a flyer about some picture promotion which sounds interesting. Says the PTA will receive a portion of each package but doesn't tell you what the portion is for or even how much they would receive. Also, anyone know exactly what the PTA is trying to raise money for this year? I know we have playground equipment & I see computers in every room. Just curious as to what the goal is this year. Thanks in advance.

  2. I don't know if you have the same fund raiser going on as Dixon Road right now with the Christmas catalog. If so, all I've got to say is don't buy the wrapping paper. Bought some last year - WAAAYYY overpriced for what you get. I was embarrassed to deliver to my friends. On a positive note, the chocolate is yummy.

Most ... if not all of your questions will probably be answered at Thursday night's open house. I don't remember the amount the PTA will make from the pictures ... but the PTA does make a fair amount & the pictures are priced very economically. I may be forgetting some things ... but the PTA is hoping to raise money for a variety of items. Most of the PTA budget is currently planned to be spent towards the purchase of computers for classrooms. Money will also go towards Teacher Appreciation gifts, beautifying the school grounds, volunteer recognition gifts, teacher supplements, the accelerated reader program, copies, Artists in the Schools Program, PE Patches, Insurance, Legal Fees/Taxes & to send the 5th grade to see the symphony.

Steph, with all due respect, why don't you go to a PTA meeting? You don't have to be a member to attend meetings. OUr PTA raises monies for all sorts of things.

I am a chair on the PTA at my kid's school and we cover that at the first PTA meeting. Has your school had theirs yet?

Yes, we've had 2 meetings already...but Melynda's right, some of your answers should be answered tomorrow night. I remember hearing that we get $5-10/picture package purchased, probably depends on the price range. And I believe we're raising money for extra computers in all the classrooms (guess I wasn't paying attention very well at the first one, huh?) The PTA website is down, but hoping to get it up soon! If you have any questions you can PM me, and I'll see if I can help you. The PTA at Westview really is great, and I enjoy being a part of it! It's definitely going to be a lot harder to get people involved this year, the way the economy is. We've already noticed a big lack of things needed/volunteering, etc.

We don't typically have kids at our PTA meetings. It does happen sometimes, you could definitely bring them if you had to, if that's the only way you could come. They just go in the back and color or bring their DS's or homework, whatever. (just don't want her thinking that it's like KellBell described!) I know it's hard with so many kids...I've got 3 and can't handle that many, don't know how Steph does it with 7!!!

as long as I have had kids in school (8 years now), and as long as I have been in PTA (8 years), there have been kids at the PTA, including mine when they were little fella's. There are a lot of single moms out there that have no other choice but to bring the little ones along.

I believe at least 3 if not 4 of hers are in High School and/or Middle School.

Been there too, but only have the one. Pretty much if we went anywhere, DS went.
