Does anyone have any suggestions? My daughter was accepted into the early college program this year and needs to volunteer in the community. She needs to do a few hours of community service work.
:iagree: Libraries, hospitals, nursing homes and abuse shelters are just a few other places that would love a volunteer. Sherry
any cancer organization, for a run/walk/triathlon; serving drinks, registration, setting up, etc....there are hundreds going on in our area eery weekend.
Johnston County Animal Protection League is always in need of people to volunteer to help care for cats at PetSmart. They allow you to schedule the days that work for you. It only takes about an hour each time you go.
I used to volunteer at a hospital and a nursing home when I was teen. I think nursing homes are a great idea. There are some lonely people there that just love to talk to kids and teens. Sometimes a volunteer is the only visitor they receive.
Try the Foodbank of Eastern NC in Raleigh http://content.foodbankcenc.org/getinvolved/volunteer/volunteer.asp

I will second JCAPL. We always need help with the dogs, (watering, walking, etc.), on Saturdays at the adoption events as well as setting up and taking down. My son volunteers there, as well as other kids. The adoption events are held every Saturday from 12-4.
The JCGOP had a few of the students volunteer last school year. They were awesome! Some really great kids! I suggest you match a non-profit with your child's interests. I believe that's why our experience worked out so well, these students were interested in politics.
