http://www.wral.com/news/strange/story/6054514/ Game over: Fla. cops caught playing Wii on the job Posted: Sep. 22 4:15 p.m. LAKELAND, Fla. — It's game over for some police officers who played video games while they raided a convicted drug dealer's home in central Florida. Surveillance video obtained by WFLA in Tampa caught the officers playing a Nintendo Wii bowling game, with one furiously jumping up and down in celebration. Officials say some of the officers could be disciplined. Officers with the anti-drug task force had just stormed into the home of the convicted drug dealer, who was already in custody. One Polk County sheriff's detective can be seen taking several breaks from cataloging evidence so she can bowl frames. The officers did not know a video camera had been set up in the house before the March raid. on the news this morning they said they had video showing they'd played for over 9 hours! :banghead:
Yeah... my games and gadget feeds have been going off on this for a while... hilarious. and stupid... but hilarious.
Agreed. But technically none of us should. I guess I would just hate to see them lose their jobs over it.
9 hours of wii bowling. I work on video games, and i don't even play 9 hours of the game i'm making in a day.
Well, this is Polk County, FL. With a demographic more like Johnston, as Polk is between Hillsborough County (Tampa) and the Orlando area. This is the county where the philosophy is shoot 'em up first. Having worked in and lived near Polk, the sense of pioneer justice is similar to what was exposed about Sheriff B's feelings about Hispanics in JoCo. These deputies made a bad choice and their actions serve to embarrass their brother officers. When one puts on a badge, the expected standards of behavior and conduct are higher.
This may have been a case of bad judgement and not a bunch of the "shoot em up" boys. I'm not sure it's fair to stereotype all the officer's in that area or Johnston County when there are perfectly respectable officers in both places. (or at least I'm assuming there are at least a couple in Polk). I do agree with your last two statements.
Perhaps instead of a "shoot 'em up first" philosophy, perhaps I should have said "cowboy of the Old West" style. And I agree that the poor actions of a few discolor the reputations of the finest. Yet, I think that if one were to survey the demographics of this county or Polk, Co. FL, for that matter, the perception of law enforcement drastically varies. I would daresay that the perception of LEOs from the Hispanic community is different than that of the folks who go to CDH. Not saying it's right. It is what it is. I too find it a disservice when a member of the LEO community acts outside the law. I feel the same way when a member of the military does it and it gets wide news. We'll hear far more about the single Marine that allegedly killed his wife in Jax this week, than we will of great service that the rest of the Marines provide.
I disagree on the Marine story... Bragg in my opinion hasn't been labeled in a bad light due to the few murders involved there with their own...
Seabee, I really hope I am wrong on that one. Our servicemen and servicewomen do so much that tends to be taken for granted. Realistically, if a group is a representation of the community at large, there are bound to be X number of SOBs in the mix. I hate it that they are the ones whose antics are reported.
