:iagree: Sounds like she wants a pity party and an excuse for her substance abuse plagued life. Of the only two people who know the truth, one is dead so that means there is a 50/50 chance it was true.
she is probably running low on money and needed a way to make some! I agree though we only get 1 side of the story and there are always 3 sides, her, his and the truth!
I saw the story yesterday, rolled my eyes, and went on. It's disgusting whether it's true or not. She was so drugged up for years, there is no telling.
Jeez... Thought I'd get comments like, "Who knew something like that was going on," "That's pretty tragic" or something about child stars and drugs.... Wow. Never mind then.
I think it's pretty tragic. I believe her too. I will read the book. I am kinda shocked that folks think she is lying about it. What are your thoughts Bostonredhead?
my only question when it comes to the validity of her statements is how the crap does she know what she is remembering is what really happened, she has admitted to being on hard drugs since she was very young and why if it is true bring it out to the public after all these years. If she needs healing, go to a therapist not make accusations against someone who cannot defend himself - jmho
even if the guy was alive it would be he said/she said and the truth would never come out. I do agree about the drug thing. It's all very twisted. And if I was going to try and get money/publicity this is the last thing I would make up. It makes her look just as bad as her dad. There seem to be a million other scandals she could have cooked up.
yeah but she has been in and out of rehab her whole life and there are some pretty intensive therapy sessions in rehab, why was this not brought up all those times? i don't know, it just seems a ploy for money and attention. Anyone read Valarie Bartonellis's book? There is a lot of reference in there to how things were while filming "One Day at a Time" and even back then she was having major alcholol and drug issues. i just thought why now?
:iagree: I don't think she'd lie about something that bad just for publicity. This morning on the Early show they were talking someone and I thought it was interesting that they pointed out that she is still defending her father in that she says it was consensual. They were saying that whenever the situation is between an authority figure, esp a parent - that thats control, consent. Even tho she may have thought she was consenting, she probably didn't feel as if she had another option.
but that is my point, why go public with it unless it is to make money or draw attention to a dead career? i know people who have been through it and the last thing they would want is for the whole world to know
I'm sure something that tramatic would take a long time to accept and admit. In order to get over it, she has to though.
yeah i see your point but people have done a lot less for money these days just to get their face back in front of the public, but, hey who knows except her really why she is doing it.
It's really so sad. she has been to hell and back with her life and years of therapy and drug rehabs have probably brought out more than she even knew. She definitely is in that 'consensual' pattern that I am sure all her therapists have tried for years to get her out of. When you abuse drugs at such a young age, while your brain is developing, the damage is pretty deep and severe. Like Tangerine said too, I think her putting it all out there is therapy and healing for her. I am sure the money is a nice perk too. If she helps at least one other girl going through something parallel, it's all worth it.
Unfortunately in our society nothing gets the attention of the general public like a famous face / name. Parkinson's - Michael J Fox Autism - Jenny McCarthy AIDS - Freddie etc etc so on and so on..... So many celebs feel pulled to put a face with the disease, the mental health issue, the crime etc to in order to bring more attention to it. They may do it for genuine reasons such as to raise money / awareness or they may even do it for their own personal gain. Whatever their reasoning I have to applaud them for actually being brave enough to put THEIR face on it because it's a part of their personal life that I know I wouldn't want to share.
