Long story short - We have a new computer and it has Windows Vista. Which I'm totally unfamiliar with. Anyone have any pointers or do's and don'ts, pros or cons? I know a lot of people don't like it but it seems I'm stuck with it.

Windows 7 seems to work well for me, you can buy it next month.

not a pro but, if it's important for you to keep, save it outside of the windows directory. If you lose a hd, vista is a ***** to enter.

Got a laptop about a year ago that came with Vista. STILL trying to figure stuff out! I may think about wiping it later and installing Windows 7. Hasta la VISTA baby!

It's on my laptop. I really haven't had any trouble with it. Not sure what all the fuss was about. I don't have any issues switching back and forth either, I use three different computers regularly, home, work and laptop and they all have different versions of Windows.

Most annoying thing I've seen about Vista is it asks you every time you try to change something......pain in the ***.

i think there are two different versions of vista...regular and premium....
my laptop has thepremium and i have no problem....yet
planned on getting another and I want premium on there. unless you all tell my otherwise.

i just need a cheap second laptop to play games....disc games not even online ones and no elaborate pole play
    ing stuff.

I've got UAC turned off on my boxes that run vista. I realize this makes my security weaker to a degree, but i got to thinking about it and realized I've never seen a UAC prompt i said no to. (except for one time i accidently opened yet another visual studio, and closed it by saying "no" at the UAC... i don't really count that as important though.)

Also, why is my av still there? It was linked from the computer. Does that mean all my smilies are still on photobucket? Is it internet magic?

If you gave the forums the path to the file on your computer (or picked it from the file selector) then you uploaded the image to the server. your smilies are probably still on photobucket, if you did that the same way.
