So the school is planning on bringing in representatives from all religions and beliefs so the kids can learn about and get messages and invites from them, right? I doubt it so I don't think they should do it with any of them.

The speaker is not a member of the church ...

He's a young man who travels all over the states as a Motivational Speaker -- not church specific.
As far as school was probably concerned, it was no different having this type of (motivational) speaker then having the Police Force come talk about being a good citizen .. religion or religious beliefs were not expressed at school -- they are not allowed to be.
Chris, the speaker, is a wonderful speaker for young groups. Parents had to know that evening where their Mid Sch child was going because MS age cannot drive themselves so it wasn't a secret...
    Chris is from out west.
Church is Crossroads Church that he spoke at that night for a Youth Rally.
The food that was told about was "awesome/best pizza around" - not food in general

Seems like a typical thread where someone comes on with a "crazy" claim, has not bothered to check the facts or call the school directly. Easier to just b..ch on a web site than take action by calling the school direct.

:iagree:EXACTLY! If they allow one, then let 'em all in!

We do plan on contacting the school, I was just curious if anyone else knew about this. If indeed they were there to promote 'no drugs', etc., that's great, but being there to promote their church would be wrong.
I do not want someone that I don't know speaking to my children about religion without my knowledge or permission. I don't go around to the schools to 'recruit' kids for my church or preaching to them about my religion!

This was not a crazy claim, I didn't make anything up, I simply shared the little facts I did have and sought more. Thought I'd see if anyone else had more info is all, is that a crime? I wanted to see what other parents thought or knew, is this not a discussion board to get other's opinions and DISCUSS?

Thank you for the info! THIS is exactly what I wanted to know!:) Some info sent home though would have been greatly helpful as we didn't know anything about it. The kids just came home and said, "Can we go to this church tonight for a rally? We can win money and an ipod and they will have food!", that is all they knew. Would you let your kid just go to some event not knowing who was running it or what it was about? I just think the school or this Chris person could have sent home some info explaining cause dang if our kids can keep anything straight! LOL

Okay - will be interesting in knowing what the

school states - so let us know. I just looked @ school calendar to see if they post assemblies and what not -- apparently not any type of assembly gets posted. The "event" was known about a week ahead of time at least....

I attend the church the rally was at .. I heard the speaker Sunday before and Wednesday nite @ the youth rally.

Again, speaker is a Speaker - who travels the country to speak to Young group (which many of them need speaking to) but Religion itself was not spoken about at school.

And I think the kids who did attend enjoyed hearing him and got uplifted by hearing encouraging words that did not reflect around Jesus/religion .. whatever you want to deem the phrase due to personal relationship/belief.

It looks like the problem here was a failure to communicate. The school should have been proactive in communicating complete information to the parents.

JUST FYI-The schools don't send home information regarding "assemblies" being held at the school during regular school hours. I haven't known about any that go on until my kids come home and tell me about the "guy with snakes" or the "man playing the drums" or the "puppet show".

From this line, it sounds as it was communicated.

    At least to some.

if they were invited to a specific church then that has a religious slant. period. even if it wasn't mentioned during the talk. it sounds like you have a bias because of attending that church and knowing/heard this speaker already so that needs to be taken into consideration.

Yaar. Although separation of church and state never has been very big in this county. Back when i was in middle school (Selma Middle) [Wow... I just realized that that was > 10 years ago...] we had Presbyterians giving out copies of the new testament (just a few books of it IIRC) at a table in front of the lunch room.

Yes, I am! Would you have been so easily transfixed if the presenter had invited them to his mosque? I'm fairly sure that the majority here would have been upset.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. And if you are unwilling to allow a Pagan or a Wiccan, a Buddhist, Jew, Moslem, or atheist to present to your kids, then no others should be allowed to present theirs.

I object to any administration/faculty led religiously themed event in school. That's not what I pay taxes for them to do.

what if the chuch was being held at a school would it matter? I don't get the point of getting all upset over every little thing the schools do. thats the whole thing right there.

and according to what was posted no religion was mentioned in the speech, just where he was holding his next rally, maybe it was the only free location he could get or maybe it was just his next stop and he wanted to invite the kids to hear more.. just saying
