My nine year old is going to put me six feet in the ground...this I have decided!!!

My son came home this afternoon with a question I had NO idea how to answer...

He wanted to know if you could find seeds in the woods to plant on one's property...I knew that trees obviously shed seeds to spawn young, but I wouldn't have a clue which ones are local, which ones would do so easily, and REALLY wouldn't know what the seeds would look like!

Anyone have any feedback for this one? He's begging to go hiking through our back woods to see what we can see...problem is, the mommy/camp leader doesn't even know what she should be looking for!!

Can someone help me out here???

Pine cones should be easy enough to find, they are a carrier mechanism for seeds.

Acorns, should also be readily available.

Look on the limbs for seed pods that hav't fallen yet, then look on the ground to spot them, make sure they havn't popped already, works for any tree you like, and ya don't even have to know it's name, LOL got some great Jacuranda seeds that way, beautiful flowers on that tree, maybe one day it will even bloom, ha:jester:

Exactly - and it's great to see Mom helping even if she isn't sure of the answers. This type of thing makes forever memories for both of you.
