True enough, but fussing AFTER the fact isn't going to solve anything. What are they supposed to do about it now? We can't always get our way.

You are really confusing me. I'm not sure why you are so negative. I don't think I understand what drippin with the sugar mouth is supposed to mean but it sounds like you are really trying to argue with me for some reason and I am not interested in doing that. I just wanted to be able to discuss this issue, which is what most forums are about. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and there shouldn't be any harm in discussing issues like this. Not sure why all of the panties in a wad comments either...what some consider to be important others do not, and if you don't then why bother to comment at all more than to say you don't think it is a big deal? Why be demeaning or belittling to someone else's concern?

Just because it has already been "decided" doesn't mean it can't be "undecided", although I admit that is highly unlikely. But I don't see a problem with letting people know on a public forum that there are some who care and are not happy about how it was decided, so that maybe next time, as one person said maybe Riverwood will get a high school, and maybe they will let the kids have some input or at least put the subject out on the floor for discussion at a meeting, handle it differently.

P- once you get used to the personalities you'll see the PRM is good people and everybody has a certain style you just figure out as you go. I really like yours so don't get scared off by Nutty or anybody else. When I started posting I got my feathers ruffled because I just wasn't used to how some people roll. Heck, I even got into it with seabee and he's the nicest guy around. He just tries to hide it. Welcome to the boards.

I really don't see a difference in the tone of your comments vs the tone of the comments you are complaining about. Granted, we don't have the benefit of hearing a person's tone of voice or seeing their facial expression or body language here, and sometimes it's hard to step back and look at the big picture when you're in the middle of a discussion. But try to think of those who disagree with you as being just as reasonable, and just as entitled to their own opinion, as you are.

I stated before that I DO truly understand and I do sympathize with those that have been here for years wanting to honor the areas history; I can appreciate the sentimental value in it. I did state that. I also pointed out that it is already honored at the middle school, so it isn't as if the history has been completely ignored; I can also understand if some would like it to continue at the high school level because that is tradition(?). I heard the other side of the argument; I listened, I really did, so let me try to be more clear in mine again as I wasn't trying to be offensive.

I wasn't trying to be rude or abrasive at all, my main beef isn't personally in the color choice or mascot choice whatsoever, although light blue isn't my favorite from a picture taking/laundry point of view ...although I am a Tarheel fan...my main issue is that I really feel like this is an issue, a decision, that would have been so effortless to include the community in making...and I stated several times that that includes ALL of the community--northerners, southerners, oldtimers, newcomers, students, parents, all community citizens.

To me it feels like those that made the decisions didn't really care to listen to the people that will support the new school, attend the new school, pay for the new school, live near the new school, etc...it makes me angry that something as simple but meaningful as this would not be put up for public input. I also stated that if it had been put to a vote and the same mascot and colors came out on top then that would be great, it was the opportunity to feel like being a part of a community, a decision affecting our children and grandchildren, and neighbors, and future that was lost to all, in my opinion.

I'm often accused of being dramatic, of making an issue appear bigger than it really is--but to me, one of the greatest things about our country is that we each get a chance to have our voice be heard, and that it is so important not just on election year but whenever possible for public servants to ask what it is that the people who elected them or that they represent or work for think, what they want their future to look like. I feel like they should have at least asked, in some way, and then listened to the answer on this particular issue since it is such a large part of the fabric of the whole community.

That is where my frustration comes from...I wanted to be included, probably like the original poster, in helping shape the future of the community, as it is home to our family and our children.

  14. Poor thing. You don't need to keep explaining. All KDs was saying that everyone has an opinion.

I really give up trying to explain...some of you seem so determined to be belittling (ie the "poor thing" comment) I wish those posters might expand more on their thoughts about the issue, instead of expanding on the negativity. I'm glad I've had the opportunity to voice my concerns on this public forum. I wish there was a little more understanding for my points, but oh well. Thanks to those that did read my posts. I enjoyed reading others' viewpoints, and will make an effort to keep their points in mind.

  17. Thank you. We got it the first time. And I did add my opinion. It just didn't take up a lot of space, and I didn't feel the need to keep explaining it. Some agree with me, some don't.
