Do you gusy in the area ever get people right on your tail on 42 when you do the speed limit? I have been on the receiving end of 2 tickets on 42 earlier this year and have therefore slowed down. However, it seems like I'm the one commiting the crime when I now go the limit on 42. I have another late night job, and it's not uncommon for people to ride on your tail, flash lights and blow the horn because you're slowing them down.. Do you guys ever see this?
You see the same thing on Hwy 70 in the morning going in to Garner, when it slows to 45 after White Oak. Atleast you can move into the next lane, where on Hwy 42 you can't. I've let them pass me on 42...if they don't like going the speed limit, I let them speed up to go around.
I just noticed your avatar is a fish. I never really looked that close before but until now I thought it was a flying saucer.
Not a fish. A mammal. Appears to be a dolphin. Note the tail flukes are horizontally aligned. Fish tails generally are vertical aligned.
Tailgaiting I am a reasonably fast driver....about 8 miles over the limit but I can't stand tailgaiters. I had my windshield washers adjusted so they shoot OVER my car. That usually backs them up. It's great when they don't have any washer fluid and their windows get smeared when they use their wipers.
Did I ever express how much I love KDs? Who cares about political differences. She is one cool grandma.
Hey, maybe I'm one of the a-hole drivers? A-holes have feelings too! I keep running into folks running 5, 10 even 15 MPH under the speed limit on no passing two lanes like 42, Government Road, Barber Mill or 1010. Typically they're blabbing on their cell phones and don't give a rat's *** about -or are completely oblivious to- the traffic backing up behind them (present company excepted, of course). I pass only when it's safe and legal and I don't tailgate because there's just no tellin' what some of these brain donors are gonna do next.
No matter how slow someone is going, it never helps to get right up on their bumper. I'm embarrassed when I ride with people that do that. For one thing, you just never know when someone will slam on breaks. As annoying as it is, I still keep my distance behind slow drivers. I HATE when people ride my tail, especially when I'm going the speed limit or above. I love it when they pass me and get stuck at a red light!!! I just sit there and laugh. One more thing - there are a bunch of people out there that keep their turn signals on for MILES. That's just as annoying as not doing it all. You never know when they're going to turn.
After having one hell of a rear end collision (me hitting) some time back, I have learned to just be patient, keep a comfortable following distance, and maintain at least the speed limit. Too many people can get hurt by driving like a fool. I would hate to be responsible for a childs death because I was driving like an a-hole. Too bad others don't feel the same.
There are tons of tailgaters out there. I generally do at least the speed limit, usually over , but derned if people don't get right on your bumper. If I can't see your headlights in a freakin mini-van, you are entirely too close! Oh, and use your turn signals!!
There are just way too many people out there doing things other than paying attention to driving. Let's see, how about texting, on the cell, looking in the back seats to tell their kids how cute they are. etc., etc., etc. Most of them don't even know that the speed limit opens up on 42 to 55mph just pass wallyworld!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't tell you how many times I've turned off of Cornwallis onto 42 and got behind drivers that won't go above 45 all the way up to Walmart. But these same idiots will do 60 coming the other way!! Are they stupid enough to think it's 45 one direction and 55 the other? Duh.
I'm guilty of tailgating even though I hate it done to me. This thread may actually do some good. I'll be more aware of it. But on 4 lane highways - SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT!!!! Or I will give you the bumper.
