I don't slow down. I just make it a point NOT to go over the posted speed limit.

I don't slam on my breaks, tempted though I may be. But I am suddenly not as interested in getting to my destination. I'm not talking doing something dangerous like sudden drops in speed, so don't lump me in with the moron riding my ***.

Really? How do you tell the difference? I'm not a mind reader, I can't begin to guess the motivation of the driver riding my bumper.

Decreasing your speed is smart if someone is riding your ***. Not to annoy them (which is what i said earlier, mostly as a joke) but to mitigate their following distance. Thats just how i feel about it. I won't go SIGNIFICANTLY slower, but i do lock to the speed limit, and 5mph under if they get even closer at that point. It might **** them off more, but i want them to have as much reaction time as possible if something goes wrong in front of me.

Here's the way I see it. If you are on a road where you can get over, whether you are doing the speed limit or not just get over and let them pass. It's going to avoid an accident with that person on your bumper. If it is a road where you can't get over then doing the speed limit is appropriate (I don't think going under the speed limit is safe and is just passive aggressive at that point) and the person is going to have to wait or go around you. If you are on a road where you can't get over and the person appears to be driving recklessly and won't get over then put on your flashers and pull to the side and allow them to go around you. You can also take that time to call 911 to report them. But that's what I would do. It's clear everyone has their own way of dealing with obnoxious drivers.

But if you become uninterested to the point where traffic begins to back up as a result of that is what I have a problem with. That's all.

An all this time When I go the speed limit or my little 5 above I thought they were trying to annoy me into going faster by riding on my tail or slow myself down by going to the side of the road so they can pass me. ,So you're saying that condoning their aggressive behavior right. Seems to me it would just continue their bullying tactic for the next guy, silly me.

Do you know what the speed limit means? Limit means not to exceed. The speed limit however is not the safe speed to go in certain situations and in those cases you need to go under the speed limit. Speed limit does not mean go that speed no matter what, it means do not EXCEED that speed. Your comment is so wreckless. If you're behind me and you get on my butt, I don't give a hoot, you can drive on the median if you have to to get around me but you're not going to imtimidate me into driving any faster.

The speed limit is the speed set for what the DOT and Govt think is safe on that road. That doesn't mean you can't exceed it by about 5-9 miles an hour. You all must be nervous drivers. :) I refuse to bow to old age! Try being in Florida and get behind some of those old people., sheez......tee hee hee

Tailgaters don't really bother me that much and I have rarely (although admittedly) retaliated with a brake stab a time or two in my 20+ years of driving. However, I pity the tailgater that runs up on my FIL. Now, he'll flat out floor the brakes. He's also confronted a few people on the side of the road for doing that. There's a lessen to be learned there for both sides.

Anyone remember the animated Disney short about the good driver that turns all crazy when behind the wheel? You never really know who you're dealing with out there. Now I'm the kind of guy that will stand up for myself or my family but needlessly putting myself in danger with hot-headed people is not something I feel is that important. However, there are plenty people out there that will escalate a situation to the point that somebody gets hurt or killed. Its best to keep a cool head always behind the wheel because its hard to see through rage.

I don't let tailgaiters bother me either, I stay with the flow of traffic. It is the safest way or the slow ones will cause accidents. I wonder how many PERFECT exact speed limit drivers are exactly PERFECT in every aspect of life? I doubt it, so if you don't drive aggressively, you smoke or drink or do drugs or over eat or break some other law,,, so WHATEVER......

I'm not perfect, never claimed to be. I make my share of mistakes. However, I try to drive at least the speed limit if road conditions allow, I USE MY TURN SIGNALS and try not to **** off other drivers by acting like I'm the only car on the road. I sure wish a few others would try it, it makes the day go a lot better.

um, i'm not condoning any aggressive or passive aggressive behavior. just get out of the way and save yourself the accident. if they are being a jerk you're not going to teach them a lesson so they don't do it to the next guy.

The fast ones cause way more accidents. It always amazes me when I'm on 40 or 440 that all those cars in the left lane think it's perfectly fine to be right on top of the car in front of them like no one is going to have to slow down for anything up ahead on the road. I will see 10-15 or even more cars that are just right behind the car in front of them and all it takes is someone needing to slow down for anything such as a........deer, or tire tread or something else they can't run over in the road, all those cars behind them that have to slow down have a high chance of having a chain reaction crash. So stupid. And heck no.........no one who is claiming to drive safely on here is saying their perfect in any aspect of their life. Don't make the safe drivers the enemy.........they're the only ones with any common sense.

I always hear people say 9 miles over the speed limit is acceptable. Where exactly did that come from?
