I'm doing a report on near death experiences for my psychology class. What do yall know about them? Anyone had one? So far in my research some of the commonalities are detachment from the body, total security or extreme fear, warmth, presence of a light, etc.
I was once knocked out cold for a few minutes during a football game. I remember, while out, talking to a family member that had recently passed. I have a good story that doesn't necessarily qualify as a near death experience but one that is pretty freaky. My grandfather passed away in '99 and left my very sickly grandmother behind. My grandmother was and still is on a ton of medication and has to be looked after by mom quite regularly. Anyway, before my grandfather died of cancer he asked me to make sure I looked after my grandmother. Shortly after he died, I moved away but in the middle of one night shortly thereafter, I had a dream that he was trying to get me to call my grandmother right away in order to check on her. I woke up around 4am and felt strange like a lot us do when we awaken from a nightmare. So, around 7am that morning I called my mom to tell her about my dream. She thanked me and said she needed to call my grandmother and let her know she was on the way over to take her to breakfast. About an hour later, my mom called me in a panic because when she got over to my grandmother's house, she found her lying on the floor in the bathroom. Apparently she had a mild stroke overnight and had fallen down. Paramedics were immediately called and they took her to the hospital for a couple days. Ever since then, my parents have asked me to call at any hour of the night if I get more warnings from my grandfather.
I had a very minor one when i was in middle school . I was at confirmation camp and we were out canoeing in the lake that sits in the middle of the camp. Some group was out in their canoe ramming people at random, and t-boned us square in the port side with a decent amount of force. There really wasn't much we could do but roll with it. I'm not a terrible swimmer, but i wasn't by any means confident in my abilities. And i'm pretty tall, so its rare for me to be outside my depth in water, so when i am it freaks me out pretty bad. but i was out ~200 ft (i measured the lake on google just now, it was about 460ft wide, so i'm guessing 200 was about right) from the shore, and i just sorta... calmed down, and swam. I didn't have a thought in my head at all, all i remember was that i knew where the coast was, and i was going for it. I was in terrible shape, but something told me i could do it anyway, because i didn't have a choice. When i finally did get out of the water, my main reaction was surprise that my glasses had stayed with me. Also, life jackets are life savers. I definitely wouldn't have made it without one.
I had a near death experience about 6 yrs ago. I got deathly ill from complications of a botched surgery. I was hospitalized for 4 months and my heart stopped upwards of 25 times. The first time was the worst, and I was clinically dead for over 40 minutes while they tried to revive me. I was only 18 and had just had a baby, or they said they would have stopped by then because I was so sick, they thought death would be the end result anyways. Anyways, during that time, I do remember them working on me. It felt like I was still there...like I could feel them touching me, doing chest compressions, bagging me, etc, but none of it hurt, or felt weird to me (I guess opposite of detachment from the body...) I was in such a sense of peace it was unreal. Indescribable, really. Just felt warm, safe, and really, really peaceful. I wasn't scared...it was...bizarre. The weirder part though is that I don't remember anything else from that timeframe, since I was in a coma.
I stepped on a HUGE green snake yesterday. I swear my heart stopped! I'm guessing its HUGE heart about stopped too because it couldn't figure out if it was coming or going... whizzing back and forth until I turned it loose. This caused me to dance like I was needing rain. That snake had to have been 18" maybe 20" long! <shivers>
I had a near death experience when the Supreme Court decided who the POTUS would be in 2000. Luckily I came back to help vote Obama in later. Sherry
My near death experience when I was 5 years old, I was riding my bike and fell into the bushes and landed on a wasp nest. I was stung about 10 times. I went into the house (my 12 year old uninterested brother was watching me while my mom was at work about 30 minutes away). I did not know what was wrong but I had all this red bumps all over my body so I decided to take a bath and wash them off. Little did I know I was having an allergic reaction. My mom (her soul today rests in Heaven) had a holy spirit moment and God told her to go home in the middle of her shift. She litterally left work (she was a painter at Electric Boat painting submarines) came home, took me to the hospital and they gave me a shot. The doctor told the nurse I was minutes away from going into shock. Although this happened so long ago, this is one of my vivid memories that I have and know God intervened and I thank Him often for that intervention.
