My friend has 2 little girls and last year they really wanted to go to the fair but she did not really want to go because of cost, crowds, ect. so she told them they could go to the fair or they could each have $20 to spend on anything they want. They took the money and she got off a lot cheaper than if they had gone. Bribery is a beautiful thing!

I was just wondering when the safety reports would come out. I ride the Ferris Wheel and that's about it, oh - and the potato sack slide ride. I prolly won't go this year, I'm not a regular attendee anyway. Mom and Dad are flying out next week, I have Halloween costumes to make, and we still need to squeeze in a trip to the Lazy O Farm. I'm booked!

NC has some of the toughest insp on rides, so there is comfort in that.

We figured we can actually go on a day trip to an amusement park cheaper than the fair. If the kids rode just 8 rides had nothing to eat whatsoever, & we didn't ride anything, it would still cost us over $200. Hate that we have to miss it but being that we could go to another amusement park cheaper, I think we'll do that. I like the idea of "bribing" the kids--LOL. Plus, my husbnad is not a big fan of the crowds. Have fun if you go. I'm sure we'll get a couple of great fall days in.

  7. I've only missed the fair one time in 33 years. That was when I was in high school. I got grounded for sneaking a boy through my window at night. If my girls ever try that, I'm going ground them until they're 30.

I'm surprised that they hired you back the following year after not showing up. :jester:

I bought tickets on-line for my group last night. The kids are really looking forward to visiting the fair & the corn maze this weekend. I hope the weather gets nicer :)

The lil' lady likes the ag exhibits, but chickens all look the same to me (...an' even better fried!). I don't like gettin' pumped for a buck everytime I turn around. I like to think I'm not that dumb...

We are not going this year. DH works nights, so we could not go as a family. This will be the 2nd year we have missed the fair, but between money and the way he works, just kind of rough. Not real keen on just me and DD going by ourselves.

DH & I are going, we usually go with a few friends and have a ball! No rides for me, I can get motion sick in a rocking chair! We go for the funnel cake, the corn dogs and the exhibits. Love the Village of Yesteryear and the farm animal exhibits. Never knew there were so many varieties of roosters!!

    Who remembers....

... the original location of the water falls?

... Hoochie Coochie shows? (Never did go into one, but always watched the previews! LOL)

... Little Tater House? (my uncle started this. Best fries at the fair. Was Dennis Rogers of the N&O's favorite place for fries.)

... that they used to let school out for a Fair Day?

Just a few things from "back in the day".

Thought I'd add this link from the 2008 State Fair:

    http://www.wral.com/entertainment/video/3785984/

Odis is retired from WCSO, but works part time with my Division a few days a week.

He's a legend at WCSO and in Southern Wake Co.

He'll be at the fair all week, so if you see him, be sure to say hello.
