The second I saw the size of the balloon I knew there was no way he was inside. You'd be lucky to lift 10 lbs with that little helium.

I totally bought into it. If I had actually sat down and rationally thought about the situation I probably would have come to the same conclusion, but the media does a good job of sucking you in to the frenzy. I feel like I lost a year off my life watching that balloon come out of the sky and thinking there was a little boy in it.

yeah, they need to get into some kind of trouble. Remember what happened to the lady in Smithfield when she said her kid was missing from the flea market.....

She could spend five years in prison for telling police her 3-year-old disappeared from Brightleaf Flea Market in Smithfield. Ms. Thomason, 43, also faces a possible fine of $250,000 and a suspended sentence of as long as three years. She is officially indicted with making material false statements to law enforcement officers.

Anybody who watches the interviews can tell that this was a total set up. That daddy is lying like a rug. You can tell by his body language and his beating around the bush and not answering the questions. Losers!

That's exactly what I was thinking! As I was watching live, I thought it had to be some kind of trick to make the reporters and police look stupid.

They have the video of the takeoff on Fox News. There is NO WAY the dad thought for one second that his son was in this balloon. There was no basket underneath. He would have had to have been inside. But since the bottom was made of cardboard, he would have fallen through in no time.

Some of you just got PWND!!

The dumbest part was the police shoveling dirt on it. Then when they started hitting it with shovels, I figured they must have realized there was no one inside since they weren't hearing anyone yelling "Ouch!".

Certainly some common sense was lacking, but I think part of the problem is the reduction or elimination of science experts at most media outlets.

It had me going for a second. I didnt see the moving pictures at first, just a text description of the situation. Once I looked at the movement of the balloon I knew there wasnt anyone in it (jerky, like a falling piece of paper). So then I thought "Oh Man, He fell out" Then they said the balloon size was that of a car. Instantly I remembered MythBusters trying to lift a kid with balloons and how many it took and said "No way did it ever even get off the ground with the kid in it".

Here's a quick recap of the Mythbusters doing it.....

To add insult to injury they said the clown was on that wife swap show. I hope the go after him for the cost of the "rescue".
