If you thought you had a real Gold Rock, who would you take it to around here to find out if it is real or Fool's Gold?

Use a piece of unglazed ceramic material. Rub the gold against it. Fool's gold will leave a black streak, and real gold will leave a golden streak.

Yikes! I am not sure I know what unglazed ceramic material is:(. Name some stuff and I will go check and see if I have some laying around in the shed somewhere. If it were to be real, where would I go next with the rock?

If you have decorative ceramic pieces around the house, the bottoms are often unglazed. Just turn them over, you can easily see the difference.

the underside of a tile would work. maybe the bottom of a ceramic plate, the rough circle on the bottom should be unglazed ceramic.

Stick a pin in it. (A dental pick works real well) Fools gold will break or crumble. Real gold will indent or make a small pin hole. Hold it up to the sun, if it glitters it's fools.
