How many local crooks can you identify?

Basic Needs Ministry, Cleveland Food Pantry, and Cleveland Library recorded nine crime cam clips of thefts in progress in one four day period. These were made available to Johnston County law enforcement. How many of the subjects can you identify and turn in to the law? Remember, you could be next. Check the web for October's hits at: http://4042needs.org/programs/crimecam/index.html

9 right out of 9 - you might want to change your friends
8 right out of 9 - keep the dog hungry, the 9th one is looking for your house
    7 right out of 9 - remember, dial 911
6 right out of 9 - don't worry, your CB is out of date anyway
5 right out of 9 - you live in the safer side of the county
4 right out of 9 - Forget it. Good quip writers don't work for free.
3 right out of 9 - All our writers are resting after writing the Limerick book.
2 right out of 9 - Did you notice no one checked for sizes.
1 right out of 9 - They drive better stuff than my Ford.

This is a serious matter and as the director, I am sorry to lose this many community assets. Like many charities we simply lack the volunteers to sort and display and safeguard your donations, particularly those donations that arrive while we are closed. Since May 2003, we added Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-9. We have not changed or reduced our Saturday hours.

We like to offer 28,000 clothing items, but since back to school, we've had demand from those using free clothing certificates, but lack those who will help get the clothing back on the racks for others to "shop."

Food pantry demand could top 130,000 or 140,000 meals this year, but we lack people willing to work or share a regular schedule to hand out the food. On Saturday, we frequently find ourselves short handed after 10:30. We are looking for a two person team from 10:30 until demand drops off or 6 p.m. A couple teams would work shorter hours.

The library has received about 50,000 books in 14 months, which is greater than our 5-year goal. This number changes daily as thousands more find their way here. There are about 10,000 ready to label and shelve and catalog, but the library needs more people to accomplish the mission. Any carpenters? Build one shelf or a whole bookshelf. Since more books and videos are being loaned and returned weekly and there is more demand for library cards, there is a need to have someone at the service desk. Since the community has so many books and residents want them available to borrow, people are needed to type and attach spine and genre labels.

Did you know that the library is in the back yard behind the Chamber of Commerce and Aquatica in Peddler's Village? Information, including hours, at:

    See you at the Library.

Is there any other place to view the videos? Can you embed them somewhere? I use a Mac - so no-can-open.

Yeah, i'm not going to run a video that calls itself a .exe on my computer. No way. Not even from a trust worthy and respected local organization.

I'm more than willing to watch, but in the age of YouTube and Vimeo - there's really no excuse.

oh, i'm willing to watch as well, i'd love to help although i doubt i know anyone on there. my point is that *.exe is not a standard video wrapper. Its as far from standard as you get. *.exe is a windows executable, and could, theoretically be absolutely anything at all. I'm sure this is just a convenience to make it so people can watch without requiring a codec or any additional downloads... but i think youtube would be your best bet, alternatively you could host the videos on the site directly in a standard format, instead of in a *.exe wrapper.

Youtube makes it easy for me to share the videos on Twitter, Facebook and my websites. Which, I'd also gladly do. Since 4042needs.org does link to me and send me decent traffic. It would be the least I could do.

*.exe is a foreign language to my Mac ears.

My corperate installed Firewall would not let me look at any of the files. Even when I tried to overide it the firewall warns me that it would not allow me to open an .exe from a website.

Didn't Dan or someone else volunter to help this group with this? My time at home is precious, but if I had the capabilities I might help them with this.

No, I think I voulunteered Dan last time this came up, as he was one who was griping about the format. Seriously, folks. Ron works solely under donations to the Basic Needs Ministry. To my knowledge, he does not have an IT department. Feel free to step forward. Stealing from Basic Needs is also stealing from the folks in need in this community.

Commercial security system files with the controls are only EXE

Sorry, but we use commercial equipment with enhancement and date and time controls for the authorities. We make one clip of each act and post it for the sheriff and public at the same time. We would appreciate donations for our next system.

    I offerd help. If I remember correctly?? ... I didn't get a response.

The files posted on the site are .EXE because they are encrypted by the surveillance system to prevent any modification of the surveillance videos. It limits the capabilities of the viewing software running them.

If I knew what system was being used I'm sure we could find a setting to unlock the encryption and convert to MPG, with a 'free' converter software. There may even be an option in the surveillance system software to produce an MPG or AVI copy.

I was posting when you put the pictures up. Thanks Cleo!!!

CamStudio will convert the ADT system videos if they want to post standard video file types on the site. It's an open source free software.

    Signage?

Are there any sign saying No Tresspassing or Do not take?

    Signage

This is a common area in a multi-tenant commercial property and No Trespassing signs are not appropriate. No Trespassing signs do not stop crooks. No body puts up Do Not Take Signs and they are all the target of thieves, just the same as residents have their cars, bicycles, and lawn mowers stolen. The law is that you have no right to take something that does not belong to you. There are two signs advising that security cameras record all.

Who would think it's OK to take stuff that has been donated to a charity?
