What do you take for it? My husband suffers from Sinus problems and Allergies,is there anything OTC that works without putting you to sleep Thanks!
I take Claritin every day (the generic version is just as good and waaay cheaper) and a Sudafed or Sudafed Sinus (depending on the time of year). Sudafed is sold over the counter, no ID required and NON DROWSY (and comes in generic form and cheap). I also do the saline rinse/flush about 3 times a week.
Oh man, this is a big topic in our house! Hubby has tried everything, Claritin won't make you sleepy like Zyrtec does. Saline/nose rinses are also a big plus! Just don't watch him do it, it's disgusting to see! (I do them too, so it doesn't gross me out so much anymore! LOL) Hubby went for allergy testing and found out he's allergic to pretty much EVERYTHING, including our poor kitty who might have to find a new home. Hubby has been sick for about a month now with sinus/allergy problems, and we are trying to do anything and everything to make him feel better. We're getting the hamper out of our room (no wet clothes near sleeping quarters), may be replacing the carpet with hardwoods, replacing curtains with blinds, and probably will have to get a cleaner to come in and help me clean this monstrous house, too hard to keep it dust-free, it's so fricking huge! We've also just had an air cleaner installed (through HVAC unit) and he's going to bring his dehumidifier home to see if there's extra moisture that could be creating mold anywhere. Allergies suck. And forget about him going outside, he's allergic to almost every single grass, weed and tree out there. Even is allergic to cockroaches!
For me, I've taken Claritin, Zyrtec and others like them with only limited benefits. The one antihistimine that seems to work really well for me is Allegra. The downside of that is that my insurance will not pay for it and its the only one that hasn't gone OTC. So...I make do.
Allergy shots...:ack: Doesn't sound like fun. Hubby has tried everything, Allegra, Allegra-D, zyrtec, Claritin, every kind of nasal spray and every combination together. Nothing seems to work for him. His ent told him to try sticking with a spray (can't remember which one) and one of the meds, can't remember which one. It didn't work either. Poor guy, he's always so full of gunk, and no matter what he does it just doesn't come out. He had sinus surgery a couple years ago and it seemed great for a while, not so much anymore.
Has he tried Mucinex to at least help loosen it up? The active ingredient is Guifasin (I know that's not spelled right) and its been available for years. Most of that time by prescription. It seems to help loosen up mucus.
He's never tried Mucinex that I know of, but my kids have used it before for coughs. I might mention it to him. I can tell you that he's always got stuff coming out of him :ack: but it seems to be never ending.
Sinus Problems I went Friday night to Minute Clinic and she told me top take sudafed sinus/allergy extra strength, Municenex DM xtra Strength and nasal rinse.
Thanks for all the replies! He's tried everything too from the Netipot,to Allergy shots, presciption drugs,OTC drugs and just about nothing seems to help. At the moment he thinks it's more of a sinus infection :? He also did the Allergy testing and is allergic to just about everything under the sun, probably even me
Allergies are bad here too. Claritin D is what we were told to use. It is nondrowsy. DH also uses a little bit of vicks to help him breath, especially at night.
Will then, let me tell ya what helped me. I moved out of the trees, literally. Built a house away from the trees, planted centipede in place of fescue and replaced all carpet with hardfloors. I suffered daily from allergies and was prone to sinus infections. The move was not about my condition, just happened that we needed to move and so happened that the house we built was not surrounded by trees, what a difference it has made in my life. No daily allergy medicine needed, although I do occasionally need some (once/twice a year) and will every few years have a sinus infection but nothing like what I suffered when I first moved here. Hope you can get things figured out for your husband, its miserable to have these issues.
