Who do you use. I'm cancelling with BCBS. $80/mo ($920/yr) for the 2 of us is just re-****-u-lus. :boxing::boxing: Hell, we only go twice a yr for cleanings. :?
IT SHOULD BE FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!! DENTAL INSURANCE IS A RIGHT!!!! SAVE US OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sincerely,
I just paid $200 for a teeth cleaning yesterday plus x-rays. I paid $200 last month for my daughter. When the little one starts going to the dentist and we all go just for cleaning twice a year,so I guess we'll be paying $1,300 - $1,600 a year. That doesn't include fillings and whatever else might need to be done.
Hey HG! When I was carrying my own insurance the guy who sold it to me advised me not to add dental if what i use it for most is just cleanings. He said you come out cheaper. Don't know if that help.
wouldn't insurance or supplemental coverage be a cheaper alternative??? Maybe you had already checked on that.. don't know....
I use met life dental for me and the kiddos. and they cover some on their orthodontist stuff too. I love them. All three of us, highest option of coverage is $50.40 a month.
Ty for starting this thread. I was also paying over 900 a year and cancelled it bc it sux. I am going to look into Met.
LOL - you're on a roll. I have Delta Dental. I wouldn't say it's very good if all you have is routine cleanings, etc. I think I end up paying about the same amount for ins + copay as I would if I just paid the bill. It just doesn't hurt as much.
We used to have Delta Dental until my husband went into business for himself. We ended up dropping our dental insurance. Who knows - we may need to get insurance afterall with these ridiculous prices.
I have had all of the above - all are great, but with your age I think you should just drop it altogether and put that money into a savings account - say enough for you guys to each get a yearly cleaning and some extra just in case of an emergency - which you might find your regular health insurance would cover. You don't need braces or any oral surgery, right? Just regular brushing/flossing you should be fine.
I had an insurance agent tell me one time that private dental plans were a waste of money. He said you were far better off just putting that amount you'd pay for a monthly premium into savings and using it as needed.
I'm stunned at how much everyone pays & thrilled to have BCBS through my husband's work. We pay I think $110 a month for FULL family coverage(all 9 of us). This includes medical, vision, dental. Our dental coverage is 100% except for crowns(1/2 covered) and orthodonics(1/2 covered). I never knew how lucky we were w/ dental. We pay out the ying yang for medical coverage copays so I guess that makes up for it--LOL. With our family we end up spending a couple hundred a month on copays alone for the medical but have never paid a copay or anything for dental. I'm shocked the original poster had BCBS too yet pay something totally different. We're looking at options of what will happen though if healthcare reform takes place. Husbands' company has already said they wouldn't be able to sustaing the coverage. VERY nervous. Good luck finding some dental coverage. I've heard metlife is good though so you might try them. Also, somethings the UNC Dental School does for 1/2 price. But, there is a waiting list. Stephanie--mom to 7
Get an ING account, a Sonicare and CareCredit. Some floss and Listerine wouldn't hurt, either. That's my plan since I realized I paid more in premiums than routine cleanings would have cost me out of pocket. Anything not covered by the plan (which was pretty much anything) gets paid for by CareCredit and I pay it off with zero interest over six months. Oh, many veterinarians takes CareCredit too. Just FYI.
It really annoys me that I have BCBS and I pay over $500/mo. for my family medical coverage (no dental and now in 2010, no vision). The copays have doubled and the out of pocket maximums have doubled as well, so it is really just casualty insurance at this point. How is it that another poster gets all of the coverage (medical/dental/vision) for $110/mo with BCBS? Why is there such a large discrepancy? And, why is family coverage not based on the size of the family? 4 people vs. nine seems to be a big difference and the family of 4 pays 5 times more. Makes no sense to me.
I work for the state. They have no bigger group than us...must be all those old farts still on the payroll. They drive up costs.:jester:
Good suggestion! My DH just lost his job and we are in the midst of figuring out what road to take here. COBRA is out since we do not qualify for the subsidy. It is $1400 per month and I am a teacher (nuff said there). BCBS is $500 to add them to my policy (mine is free). We have 30 days to figure it out and I will definitely take your advice to heart and see what else is out there. Thanks!!
i have humana dental for me and hubby, its 19 a month. 10 co pay, seems good but i cant afford to do everything that needs done. if you dont need alot of work it would be a deal!
It is BCBS however, it is private insurance through the company. They use BCBS. All our cards are BCBS w/ prescription plan through someone else. So, essentially the company is paying for it but to BCBS. I know I explained it wrong but did the best I could. We know we are extremely fortunate to have this plan. IF health reform takes place however, it will be no more. Already been told that in so many words by the company. So, we are also tring to figure this out once all is said & done. One thing folks on here haven't mentioned that I have heard about are co-ops for health insurance. Don't know anything about them but do know they exist. stephanie--mom to 7
