How many trick or treaters?

...weird. Some years the door bell never gets a break, some years no one shows up. This was one of the off years so I have some left overs...aww, shoot!

Is it the same all over or is my neighborhood unique?

Given the number of vanloads of kids in my neighborhood (who do not live in my neighborhood), I would say it is about the same as last year or more. Any other day of the year I would call the sheriff's office for slow-moving vans full of scary looking people prowling through my subdivision! I did notice that many of my neighbors did not turn on their lights this year...wonder why that is? In any case, more candy for you!!

You are right on. We needed a traffic cop in the "hood" tonight because of all the "outsiders". Cars, trucks and trailers parked on both sides of the street. It has ruined Haloween. We used to look forward to treating our neighborhood kids and guessing who they were. We don't recognize very many anymore. 100+ this year.

    WOW!
In years passed we had a lot of 'busing' going on...this year, nothing.

I guess they went to your neighborhood instead of mine?

We stopped handing out candy two years ago. Small neighborhood and no young kids anymore. All we were getting is cars and vans full of people from somewhere else and the kids had huge, heavy sacks already full of candy. I would still do it if we had young kids in our own neighborhood but with all the fall festivals and trunk-or-treats available, the "outsiders" can get their fair share safely somewhere else.

I've never, ever had a trick or treater in the 9 years we've been in this house. I don't even bother to decorate anymore. The first year, we had it decorated to the nines, had lots of candy at the ready and no takers. I guess my driveway is too much trouble. It makes me sad, because we just love it, now, we go and trick or treat with our friends in their neighborhood. It was "off" this year. Not as many folks giving out candy or trick or treating. Not sure what the deal is. We had fun anyway, carved pumpkins, ate good food, enjoyed good company and the kids got plenty of candy. :hurray:

Here too. It's especially disappointing when you see "outsiders" encouraging their children to take ALL of the candy from the homes where both parents were out with their kids. Makes it not so fun for the deserving neighbors in the 'hood. I saw it happen at 2 different houses when the kids dumped the entire bowl into their bags. Not right.

Did one of your neighbors trick them all last year??:jester: Maybe that is why they are not back for more!!

We didn't have that many! Wow! It is just as amazing that these parents do not care where their kids are getting treats. I am sure you are in a nice neighborhood and all, but when mine were little we did not go to houses where we didn't know the folks who lived there! I guess I know why so many of my neighbors stopped participating this year. Sad to think about.

  11. We left our neighborhood and went to another one! So I guess we were outsiders! The reason is though the houses in our neighborhood are far from the road and are spaced out pretty far - it's a lot of walking - especially for our 4 year old. I left a big bowl of candy on the front porch, and needless to say, there was nothing left when we got back!

We were down 3 from last year, so that makes it ZERO for tonight. All those tempting Reese's Peanut Butter Cups..darn it.

WE always get alot of kids from other neighborhoods, but this year there were no van loads of kids. We only bought one bag of candy and I gave out some loose change and I still had plenty left:(. Glad I decided not to buy candy this year.

I didn't have as many. But I still went thru 3 bags of candy!

What I was amazed by is that I had to correct a child, who asked me to just throw the candy to him, cause he had place to be. I am really to lazy to walk up on a porch to get free stuff! Then I had another tell me she didn't like the candy I had, um... Hello, then you get none!

I had a few more than last year, but still only had 7 kids. Kind of sad. Love seeing the small kids in their costumes. We have been really disappointed that for as many kids that are in the neighborhood here that we don't get that many. Of course DH does not mind that we have all these left overs. LOL He said he could have treats for lunches.

we used 4 jumbo bags of candy you get from walmart, so we had a fair amount. mostly little kids from our hood. what annoyed me this year, was the kids/parents that would still come to do the door, after the event was over. we had a fair amount of company at our house, not sure if that is why or not, and we did turn the lights off outside.

I passed one or two church parking lots last night doing trunk or treat ? and they were packed. Is that the new method of trick or treating?

I really support this! It's safer for the kids and easier on the parents. I think another reason trick or treating is growing smaller is kids get candy all year long. Back in the dark ages when I was young, we didn't get candy unless it was Halloween, Christmas or Easter. So we looked forward to trick or treating much more than the kids today.

We stopped offering trick or treat at our house a couple of years ago. All we were getting were carloads of kids who did not live in our neighborhood, some not even dressed in any costume, just carrying a pillowcase. No "Trick or Treat!" when I opened the door, just stuck their pillowcase out for candy and no "Thank You!" when they got candy. Also had way too many 15-16+ y/o coming out. A couple of the young boys even tried to talk fresh to me!!

The straw that broke the camels back was when we had one young couple carrying their infant (2-3 mos) around trick or treating for the baby. Infants cant eat candy!! They were begging candy for themselves and saying they wanted the baby to enjoy Halloween. They did not get anything from me except a good scolding for having their infant out in the chilly night air. After that, I was totally fed up with it and we stopped doing Trick or Treat. Sad...I remember when it was our neighborhood folks walking their kids and grandkids around, they pulled the little ones around in wagons and even brought their dogs. We treated kids and dogs and gave beers & sodas to the parents! That was fun....sad it ended....
