*pats the fanboy on the head*

Its cute how brand obsessed they get, innit? Sorta like nothing else matters in the world but their holy iphone and AT&T. I thought you were an atheist, but this looks more like idolatry. Keep on swinging though. It'll make you feel better eventually =D

Sorry champ but if there was something better than the iphone, I would go buy it, that was the point of checking out the Droid. Ive barely said a peep about the iphone yet you turn around and call me out like I work for Apple, relax with your inferiority complex. Im sure the Droid is great.

Do you have to work at being such a tool or does it come natural?

All natural, good to know you were the fat friend though, that explains a lot.

The first step in solving a problem is admitting you have one. Good job! You are on your way!! :hurray:

You and gowulfpack seem to have a lot more in common than either of you might think.

    No Garmin needed?

Just curious as I enjoy testing new technology. Could this device truly replace my Garmin? I have a higher end Garmin with Bluetooth, Traffic updates, lane assist, 3D building view in large cities, favorites etc. Can the Droid do all of these things and still function as phone......is mapping as easy to follow?

    Thanks!

In my studies....there is no one multiple purpose device that can replace a single purpose dedicated device and still maintain all the bells and whistles that the single purpose device has. To gain in one area you have to surrender in another or pay a much higher premium in price.

In some aspects it would be like asking a netbook to function as a full blown file server, which just isn't going to happen.

    RE: Garmin

That's how I feel to a certain degree although the iPhone did change how I perceived handheld devices. I use Blackberry devices for my business but my wife uses the iPhone 3GS and I have to admit on some counts I become quite envious. However, when it comes to a business email platform I have yet to find a device as powerful as Blackberry. I worked on the Palm platform (Palm OS & Windows OS) for a few years and always seemed to have some issue or other.

I have been using the Blackberry Bold 9000 device for a year now and it covers 95% of my needs. The one thing that kills me about my Blackberry devices is the SORRY internet UI. Opera Mini is the best thing I have used yet for internet on BB devices but it still pales in comparison to Apple's handheld Safari solution.

Regarding Garmin, I love the device we have. I'd think it hard to replace it with a mobile phone type device in the short term..........but I have been wrong before.

It does so much more than my low end Garmen, but not all that. The device is fully integrated with Google and uses Google Maps.

For traffic updates the map will visually gives updates with a traffic layer showing density and accidents.

Street names are audible, the last three days I just tossed it on the seat next to me and let it talk me in. Worked great.

Ahhh......that sounds nice. We have used the Google Maps on my wife's phone on occasion but I am not sure exactly how detailed the iphone will get with maps. We always use the Garmin for road trips. Maybe we'll experiment with our phones a little.

Cool thing is that in addition to the drawing type map, the Droid will give you the satellite view.

At the end of the trip it gives you the street view of where you are suppose to be.

"Son, no one gives a **** about all the things your cell phone does. You didn't invent it, you just bought it. Anybody can do that."
    From your ****mydadsays site

I have had a blast with it, but I can see why others just don't care!

  20. I think hubby and I are getting Droids soon. He needs a phone with a digital compass. We went to a Verizon store when we were on vacation, and this teenager girl let us walk out the store thinking the Droid didn't have that feature. We went to AT&T to look at the i-phones. We found out later the the Droid does have the digital compass. Since we get better service from Verizon where we live, we decided against the i-phone. That girl is bad for business. We could have walked out and gone with AT&T because of her lack of knowledge.
