Actually both items would probably be highly sought after if someone were doing a realistic recreation or restoration for exhibit purposes. Such as the recreated room scenes in meusums, like this one. Craig
"Commode" is an old-fashioned term for a sort of bureau. My grandmother had a piece of furniture she called a commode, and IIRC it had a wide drawer across the top, and below that 2 drawers and a door. The picture in the CL ad shows the piece from the side, but I'm guessing that's what it is.
Sotheby's sold this commode in 2005 for $35,000. http://www.artfact.com/auction-lot/a-george-iii-rosewood,-padouk-and-gilt-brass-mount-0-s-0e4f16v7z7
I realize that. And I wasn't thnking sexual. I was thinking medical. Would you entertain guests at table that was used for medical procedures?? Just my personal preference.......just thought it was kind of weird.... You have to admit, it isn't something you see everyday.......
