Do not stop until you get an answer. Go to other specialists, not just your regular doctor. Go to the GI doctor. Let them do an upper GI(the one down the throat). My daughter had that and could not stop vomiting the pain was great, and they saw some raw spots on her esphagus?sp and put her on an RX. She will need another upper GI to see if she is better.

My 2 guesses would be Gall Bladder of reflux. With me, the symptoms of both were similar. When my GB first started going bad, my pain was as you described it. It will def get worse if its the GB. I had an ultrasound - normal and a HIDA Scan - normal. I had all of the clinical symptoms for almost a year. I finally told my doc to take the blessed thing out (he had said all along it was GB). Instant relief!! I asked him in recovery (still very loopy) if that was the prob. He said absolutely. It was diseased and so we sent it to pathology. A couple of years later is when the reflux started. Thought I was having a heart attack. After lots of tests, I take Zantac 150 2x a day and life is good!

Here is my suggestion..................when you are going through the pain, mix some baking soda in a glass of water and drink it. If burping relieves the pain/pressure then you know it's just gas.

No way could you ever be considered overweight!!!

I know this is w-a-y too much info to be posting over a public sight ... but I guess I'll go there anyways ... A couple of years ago I stated getting these stomach pains off & on under my rib cage. It actually hurt to breath sometimes. Sometimes the pains were sharp ... sometimes not so bad. In anycase, I went to the doc. After x-rays ... it was confirmed ... my brown eyes weren't lying & my hubby was right about me all along ... I was full of sh-t. Who knew one could actually be backed up all the way to ones rib cage.

WEll if you rule out the gallbladder with blood tests and the other scan tests like they did to my daughter, then I would definitely head to the GI. They said they think my daughter has Barretts Syndrome. So she is on an RX for it and the pain is gone now.

I hope the docs are able to help you figure out what's going on soon. It's really scary when you know something is wrong ... but you don't know what it is. The internet is wonderful because it provides so much information ... but it can also scare you to death ... because it provides so much information. I hope you find the answer and start feeling better soon.

I'm feeling better with my tummy. Cant keep my eyes open though, soooo tired. Saw dr again, taking prevacid to see if its reflux. All tests were great...liver, pancreas, white blood cells, iron and a bunch of other stuff.

I'll know by 7:00 tomorrow morning if I feel better. Thanks everyone!

Annete - I am actually feeling MUCH better today! I woke up at 5:30 with a couple pains but they were gone quickly and I fell back to sleep (never happens!) and woke up at 7:45. I was VERY tired this week and never did get much sleep. I even had some energy today, something I haven't had since Monday. Overall, a great day! Hope it keeps up.

DMJMom, I didn't read this whole thread so if this is totally off, I'm sorry. The the symptoms you described on the first post sound like something I had years ago. I'd wake up in the night with these stomach pains in the same spot you're talking about. This sounds weird but after about the 3rd time I went to the doctor, he said to take large amounts of Advil a day - like 3 at a time 4 times a day. I swear the pains went away in a few days and never came back. I have no idea what it was or why that much advil helped?!

let me know what you find. although I found out it was my zyphoid process, there really isnt much they can do about it. i found that if isipped hot tea slowly it seamed to loosen it up a bit. also ask your Dr. about it i took a light dose of a muscle relaxer (skelaxin) i think thats what it was called. and that was it. it came back one more time over the coarse of 4 yrs, i havent had it come back in about 2 yrs. good luck. Hope you are feeling better.

Thanks everyone! The pains seem to be gone, not sure if its because of the prevacid or not.

Of course, now I have a bad sore throat, probably strep, and a wisdom tooth thats killing me! I'll be glad when January is over...
