I've heard of using a car hood for a sled before. Dangerous for sure. One of the best tidbits of advise I've heard for sledding is having your kids wear their bicycle helmets when sledding. Since most kids nowadays are accustom to wearing helmets, they likely will pop it on without hestitation and it could save them from a serious head injury. I've never really gotten why adults somehow think its okay to pull someone behind a vehicle on a sled. If you don't get slung into a tree or--in this case--a utility pole, then the sledder could wind up under the wheels of the vehicle in a spin-out.
It happens whenever it snows here, right? I bet we could find one for every storm in the WRAL archives. I bet it would be fun but a four wheeler out in a field would be a better idea, so I have been told.
I'd say any motor vehicle and a snow sled are a poor mix. I got off rather easy. Our yard has a gradual slope. My son got on his circular plastic sled and I'd just sling him down the slope. He would get up enough speed to get a quick thrill, but not enough to be dangerous.
We had a doctor pulling his kid on a sled and the sled with kid slid into a parked car. Yes, kid was rushed to the hospital. Sherry
she died and now they are charging the driver. sad situation all around. http://www.wral.com/weather/story/7057774/
