My cat scratches at the door to come in. Pretty damn smart, to me. But it's tearing up my house! DH is ready to hook up ...uh..220 or what ever he calls it. He's ready to rig it up so the cat will get a shock when he tries to scratch. He hates cats but for me he has decided to accept one (only one) as ...mostly..tolerable. What do I do? How can I make him stop? ...The cat not the man.

It's not MY fault that the cat knows how to get in. And it's not HIS fault that he doesn't have opposable thumbs!

He's torn up the wood and the weather stripping.

And NOW he's realized he can come in from the back door too!

What am I going to do? I don't want to have to choose between my cat and house/husband.

    Any ideas? Please?

That's a tough one. Can you make him an indoor kitty only? I know some of them won't tolerate it if they have been allowed out. What about squirting him with water when you catch him doing it? Gonna be tough, but he should catch on quickly.

Yeah...but if he's an indoor kitty, there is the litter box issue. DH WILL NOT have cat **** in the house.

DAG, that's some damage. DH would definately not be happy if it was us.

Like someone else said, water hose.

OUCH! That's so extremely unhumane & not good for an outdoor cat. The coverclaws are great tho if you can get them on the cat yourself.

Doesn't sound like DH is too tolerable or compromising with you tho on this issue. Poor thing probably just wants in out of the cold that he/she is not use too ...

Besides the water squirt which is good (or even a horn blast), perhaps if you purchase a kitty box/house with some towels or sumpin in there for it to hide out/rest in warmth then it wouldn't be scratching up everything trying to get in the big house. Guess if its not use to one it may take a bit of bribing to getting the kitty to use it but food should cure that issue....

Poor Kitty --- good luck to you though.

if you can stand the look of it, aluminum foil (or maybe tape?) might help to break her of it.

Most cats can't stand to put their paws on aluminum.

Not to be sassy, but if I had a cat tearing the crap out of my house, the nails go.

What is the objection to a cat door? They are very small and easy to install. Big ole meanie! Just messing. I know it's hard.

:iagree: Both my cats are front paw declawed and have had no behavoiral or litter box issues related to being declawed. Both cats were done by experienced vets and also given pain meds for several days afterwards and live spoiled rotten little princess lives now. They were barn cats before. Which would some of these people rather? They live outside in all weather subject to roaming dogs and cars with their claws or inside in the lap of luxury without claws?.

In a perfect world, it wouldn't be necessary but until they create indestuctable furniture................declawed it is. With that said, one of them still runs up my door frames on occasion. I had to putty and re-paint DS's room door frame because she still tore it up.

The foil is one of the best suggestions. If that doesn't work, my son is selling his airsoft guns. :)

thanks for reminding me that no matter how cute they are and how much they need a home, i do not need a cat ever (allergies kinda help me remember too):-D

Lots of good ideas. ..He's the indoor/outdoor variety. Inside when DH is at work, outside when he's home. lol I guess I could make him some sort of bed to keep on the porch...I half way have him trained to stay in one spot on the couch right now. On his very own blankie.

I like these! http://www.softpaws.com/ They're CUTE! Does any one use them? Do the nails have to be trimmed first?.. We can get a mani-pedi together!
