went there last night for sushi... the waiter told us that the crew working in the bar area was working to get that side ready for tonight. The band is playing inside, going on in between 9 and 10 he wasn't sure of the exact time. We left there around 10 and they had a lot of work to do. I would be very surprised to see that place tonight fully completed. They still have stock the bar! btw.. the sushi was great, I would have to say that service was a tad slow, but there is only 1 sushi chef and there were about 15 people there when we got there around 8:30.
Yea, that was the issue before. When/if you are going to be a sushi restaurant, you need to have at least 4-5 people making sushi so that it's quick and efficient. I work in Durham, and I go to Suki Sushi which is always packed and never slow. I hope that it makes it, then again I wish that we had a seafood restaurant that good also.. -rhw
Closed again? Went to have Sushi on Friday and the place is closed again for repairs? What the heck? I am no restauranteer but I do know that is no way to have a re opening. I wonder what happened.
In negotiations with 3 different folks to lease the place. Unfortunately, sushi probably will not be back. Rumor has it that there might be a tavern/private club opening in the smaller building between there and the car lot (motorcycle apparell shop). But, then again, what do I know.... :?
Well, it's really a shame they went fins up- it sure looked they had a shot at making that location work. Next player?
They just need to tear that building down and make a vegetable stand in its place. Seems that everything that attempts anything there fails
I was under the impression that the building is listed on the historic register and can't be torn down......but maybe I'm wrong in that thought.
Seems to me that even if it were on the national register the owner would be able to do anything they want; including destroy.
Did the leather shop die off too? I shouldn't be surprised- the "Great Recession" has dried up so much of the discretionary spending. Almost all the H-D riders I knew have hung it up. I went in there regularly when it was a pool store; it doesn't seem big enough for a bar even if you knocked out all the interior walls. Maybe not. After all, the Brown Jug is still in business!
Really? I read an article on the N&O about the bridge replacement job there was going to allow the LBJ to remain.
I remember reading a while back that it might be in the way of one of the plans to replace the NC 70 bridge. That would be a shame- I think the original building dates back to the '20s or '30s as a "Pure Oil" gas station.
Bridge to close, Little Brown Jug lives on Bridge to close, Little Brown Jug lives on! http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/05/13/479936/smithfield-to-lose-bridge-but.html
I hadn't seen or read the article that gcoats posted stating that the LBJ would be spared, which is where my comment came from.
