super excited cause we get to go to VA Beach in August for my niece's wedding on the beach but it has been about 10 years and i have no idea where would be a good place to stay. Anyone been there and have any recommendations and oh yeah, gotta have Oceanfront:lol:

I'm from that neck of the woods...Just make sure you book early, where ever you stay. Be prepared for crowds, traffic and limited parking. If you are staying at the oceanfront, you're able to park the weekend at the hotel and hop on the trolley that runs the strip and go just about anywhere. Not sure where they are getting married on the oceanfront, but if they are having the reception at a local hotel, they may cut you a break if they are reserving a block of rooms. Some timeshares in the area might be an option as well. That is prime season there, so the hotel rates are usually on the high end, but you'll park and stay put and have everything right there.

Get your reservation in yesterday, and don't forget to hit up the wax museum on the strip and Capt George's in Pungo - it's the best location anywhere.

No idea of a hotel, the last time I stayed there was a Holiday Inn about 7/8 years ago when they were "bringing back the beach". The sound of bulldozers instead of waves lulled me to sleep at night (not). They could have mentioned that to us when we were making our reservation.

i miss VA Beach, grew up in VA and spent time every year there, there is no other beach i know of that compares with that Boardwalk:cheers: i checked online and their rates are unbelievable, higher than Myrtle Beach, that is why i was hoping someone could share where they stayed and if they found good rates, it has been 10 years since i have been and i know all the hotels, condos, etc have changed since then. The one i spent my Honeymoon in all those years ago is not even there anymore or at least i have no idea the new name:lol: Hmmm, timeshares sounds good, how would i go about finding what is available in those?

Myrtle Beach is junky compared to Va Beach - there is no comparison.

How about the Dolphin Inn, I think they renovated it and you can see the 17th St pier from it. It's around 23/24 St I think - right in the middle of all the action.

Kaci, you might try googling timeshares there. Not sure what is involved, but they might lock you into "touring" the place, which is probably something you wouldn't want to do. It would be worth a call to see if they accommodate regular guests without obligating yourself to that. Those places always have empty rooms they are looking to fill.

Another option is http://www.virginiabeachresort.com/. They are located up on Shore Drive, and they are on the Chesapeake Bay. You'd have to drive into the oceanfront area and park at one of the lots to visit, but their rates might be lower.

I was in VB last weekend for a visit and so much has changed, but I have to say it's super nice and Myrtle Beach is nothing compared to what VB has to offer.

I was stationed there in the early 80's, loved it!!! Went back about 8 yrs ago and didn't recognize the place. Glad to hear the Raven is still open. I used to drink beer, eat wings and play pacman and asteroids there a couple times a week.

Thanks Cleo, booked our stay at the Dolphin Inn, looks really nice now. Called in person & got a 10% discount off lowest rate they had and 2 free breakfasts at the restaurant next door for every morning we are there. Sometimes it pays to talk to someone in person. Could have gone the timeshare way and saved more bucks but DH refused to sit through one of those presentations. i am so excited, i cannot wait and now talking with my Mom about going again in Sept for the Neptune Festival, loved that each year:cheers:
