Folks, At 1130 am, C6 and I were voters # 17 and 18. Three precinct workers are being paid all day to sit there. While I hope the voter numbers significantly increase after work time today, I have little hope that will happen. So, given the expense of today's runoff, the expense that candidates, the lack of turnout, does it not seem more logical to go to an instant runoff ballot, such as Cary used in 2007? While in JoCo, the only runoff was between Cunningham and Marshall, there are several areas that could have benefited from the IRV process. It may not be perfect, yet it seems a lot more logical and less expensive that the runoff vote today.
There was voting today? :? Didn't we just DO that? H6, you are in charge of letting me know when and where from now on. Feel free to write me in on the ballot. I gots skillz.
A bond issue was on the ballots today for Goldston. It passed 89-13. 2000 census indicates a population of 319.
I worked the 10A precinct yesterday and we had only 79 voters - and NO air conditioning at the fire department - we have to set up in the bays. Glad to get home last night!
Local Voting FYI Did you know thatr CLEVELAND Township now has 4 (yes FOUR) voting locations??! Think of it as N, S, E & W... but they are mostly divided by the Cleveland (School) Road aka 1010 into N & S. then those areas are divided into E & W. So we now have NE, NW & SE, SW polling locations. At the CVFD PR 31A "SE" we had about 25 voters all day.... NW & SW the areas of Cleveland nearer to Wake Co. had far more voters than the Eastern side of Cleveland. Also keep in mind that there are many GOP voters in these areas.
My daughter was 41 and I was 42 at our precinct. We were shocked because we voted late afternoon. People may think primaries are no big deal but in reality they are huge. What a shame. Sherry
An instant runoff ballot is a great idea, in my opinion. The idea has been kicked around, and actually tried out in a few localities in the state, and as far as I know there have been no problems with it. It seems to be controversial, mostly because people don't understand how it works and a lot of people hate change.
A little more info on that, from WRAL: http://www.wral.com/news/state/story/7862966/ I know Joyce McCloy and her group strongly oppose instant runoff, but their arguments have never made sense to me.
