He has been the "face" of the highway patrol for years in the public's eye...now, he is under investigation?

  3. The SHP can't fart without the news raising heck about it.

I think its because of the public's perception that the NCSHP should have the highest integrity of all law enforcement agencies in the state. Sure the patrol is made up of erring individuals, but as a whole, people want to see them without the amount of corruption that seems to be broadcasted & published so regularly in the news as of late.

    Zero Tolerance = Zero Intelligence

Humans make mistakes. One strike and he's out?????

  6. Texting a fellow Trooper's wife is beyond having no intelligence.

I heard on the news this morning that it was his secretary.

Perhaps his resignation wasn't forced. Maybe he chose to do it for the good of the Patrol and to help save his family from the media attention that would have ensued had he stayed in there. It immediately becomes second page news if all he did was text something inappropriate and nothing else came of it.

I haven't seen or heard whether it was from his work computer or email address or from his personal one. That would make a big difference which many people don't grasp. If you are using a computer from your employer's network, you are putting yourself in a position to be terminated. I have known of people showing indignation when caught using an employer's computer to email or chat all day long, and even view porn. Most all employers will tell you they have access to anything you might send or receive. If it was from his personal pc or laptop or whatever, I see no reason for not giving another chance to protect his time and tenure and his reputation. He wasn't out drinking and driving or beating up on anyone. If it was his personal computer, that should be personal if it was not during the time he was being paid.

I just DON'T get it. Why risk your job to do something so freaking stupid?

It says text msg (from his phone) so probably one provided by the HP. So yes, he should've known better. But I do think its going a little over-board to investigate, causing him to resign. Spoken to, written-up maybe - but not to loose a job over. :?

I don't have an answer for you on that one. Why would a cashier "embezzle" a few dollars knowing they would be terminated and more than likely prosecuted?
Why would someone exceed the speed limit to the degree they could lose their license? Who knows what drives people? In Maj. Clendenin's situation why would he have done that at all?

I dunno. People frequently make me . Someone I know works in a retail store where a coworker was taken out in handcuffs last week for felony embezzlement. It boggles the mind. She is devasted both personally as they were friends for years, not to mention being scared of being painted with the same brush by the employers. :?

If she felt harassed and complained, an investigation would have ensued. Once established that she was harassed, then she could file suit for it, and claim that a hostile work environment existed.

That the investigation apparently was performed without stonewalling shows that the SHP takes this seriously.

It begs the question. Suppose the secretary in question was a relative of yours. Would we be so willing to come to the major's defense?

Without knowing the details, we can at least agree that a senior officer who should have known better made a grievous error in judgment.

They have added emails and texts from him (to the secretary) to the website. I feel this is an invasion of privacy (to make them so public) how embarrassing for those involved (and their families)..

I actually expected soooooooo much worse. It's not excusable because it's still a dog thing to do, but the fuss they were making I was expecting some serious XXX. I skimmed some of it and it was quite boring.

p.s. I've come to believe that a very high percentage of men are dogs so this comes as no surprise to em.

I know, right? What little I read sounded like a high school crush. Really pathetic to lose your career over something so juvenile.

I agree, no need for us to read that. It was a public information request made by the press.
