In 2003, we had a deck installed on our home, builder did the permits, so on from Johnston County, I do recall, as the inspecter was very nitpicky, but at least I knkow my deck was being done right. Jump forward 7 yrs, had home inspection and was told flashing was installed wrong under deck, and deck would need to be unbolted and fixed. I talked to a few people who think this is a new building code, so I assume it should not apply? How can I find out for sure? Would it be best to call building inspector and have someone come check it out?

    Thanks

The current building code does not apply to your deck unless you're getting re-permitted for something. The building code in effect at the time of your permit is what you should be in compliance with. Call the Inspections Dept. and find out if the code you were permitted under has changed in regards to the flashing.
