I think we are saying the same thing.

Sorry! I misunderstood your post. In a nutshell, I thought you were saying that only parents of failing kids were leaving public schools. All kids deserve the opportunity to grow, no matter where they are in the learning curve. It is increasingly frustrating to me that my kids are getting the same mediocre education that I experienced back in the 80's. I was hoping for more for their generation.

I know I've addressed this on another board, but i have to say again that your sarcasm stinks! My husband and i work for the public school system. Licensed...check. Master's degree....check. Highly qualified....check. We definitely have more than a license and a pulse. We have hearts and minds that are dedicated to teaching students of all abilities. I know this isn't the case for all teachers, but why do you think it is that we still have teachers that are not highly qualified? Maybe it's the nearly 40-child class we teach, maybe it's the belittling the parents dole out regularly, maybe it's the pay, idk. But what i do know is that it sucks to have people make these general statements about educators when I know that i do my job above and beyond along with many others.

Please see my other post where I state it is not all about you. It was a joke.

Maybe it's the fact that JCPS is more concerned with NCLB than empowering teachers, I suppose some teachers want more out of life than teaching a test and dealing with jackass parents whose little Johnny does nothing wrong and the dog ate his homework.

There is a bill in the House that will help our tax dollars to go where we want our children. I urge all of you so contact your representatives to support House Bill 41. The bill will provide a refundable tax credit for parents who chose to remove their children from the public schools and either homeschool or put them in private school.

The public school has a place--but no one can tell me that it is the solution for every child. I believe parents should have a choice.

Is this the bill that will only support families who make less than $100K a year BUT a child has to attend public school first too? I just wish a tax credit would be allowed to anyone. No matter of a combined income or to say they need to attend public first. While I am glad there are options being placed though. That is one step forward. However, I am saving the government $10,000 a year by not having her in public school too :-(.

Yes--it is the one with major stipulations. It will not benefit anyone who is already homeschooling or in private school until 2015-2016. It happens to fit my needs perfectly but I do realize it does not give everyone a choice.

The last draft I read required a child to have been in public school for the full year prior to be initially eligible to receive the tax credit.

Thanks for correcting my misinformation. What really impressed me was this: our parents logged over 30,000 volunteer hours last year with a population around 300 students. teachers that don't perform are removed immediately if necessary, as the power to hire and fire is held within the school itself.
