Due to security issues and possible damage to future employement I believe you should be a minimum of 18 years of age.

P.S. Your "CAP" key is stuck.

Considering that Facebook requires users to be at least 13 (and makes them promise, cross their heart, that they are), yes 7 years old is way too young.

I would use your best judgement with your own children. However, 7 is too young for the responsibility. 13 is the minimum age, but maybe a 13 year old isn't ready...For instance, mine were over 14 before I let them to MySpace and FB.

In the search box ... when you can enter to search for a name ...
enter the letters sel ... like you are searching for the name Selina.

One of the app suggestions that pops up confirms no one under 18 should be on facebook. It's a nasty world out there and children need to be protected!

    What search box?

    Facebook policy says 13.

BTW, I tried typing "sel" in the search box on the facebook website and got an eye full of an inappropriate image (which I reported to FB).

For cripes sakes. OK, DS has a FB account he uses for games and to chat with grandparents, period. I ALONE have the password and I alone approve all friend requests. I also have no qualms about deleting people righf off there. Right now, it's family members and kids I know personally. I also check his wall. It ain't that hard to keep an eye on.

With all that said, I bet he hasn't been on there 4 times in the past 6 months. You make it out to be some "scary" or "forbidden" place and that just ups the appeal to them.

Common sense, it's a good thing.

Well considering all the bad things that has happened due to FB one should be concerned because obviously danger lurks in using it. Geez o mighty.

The same thing can be said for pretty much everything else in existence.

True, you can bubble wrap your kids and keep them away from anything that could possibly harm them, or you could talk them by the hand and teach them what is safe and what to look out for.

The question you have to ask yourself is, which will prepare them for life after you're no longer there to protect them.

That still won't stop kids from "searching" for other things/people and seeing things they shoudn't. My 9 yo taught himself to go on YouTube and see how to change his Transformers and he liked the clips of talking animals. I didn't think anything about it until I saw what else he was looking at. Somehow from all those little clips that pop up on the side, he started watching people fart. From that, came watching 'hot girls' fart, then 'NAKED hot girls' fart. Then, next thing you know, he's watching anal sex videos on there.

Point is, it all started out innocent but you can't stop what pops up when they do searches and put certain key words in. Even with parental controls set, things still get through!

I have been on Facebook since it was created in 2004...I have had zero 'trouble'.

Facebook isn't trouble. Trouble comes from people who start drama. period. Heck, some people call this place 'trouble'....because they come looking for it. You look, you will find 'trouble' everywhere.

DS watches videos on Youtube all the time on how to upgrade his Nerf guns or video game hacks. And guess who is right next to him on the couch? His dad or I. Problem solved.

No, but keeping the computer where you can see it, rather than in his bedroom with the door closed can help a lot.

YouTube is pretty good about keeping "porn" videos off their site. I'm surprised you found one.

But the point still is that you can either hide them in a closet and not allow them to see the good stuff for fear of accidentally seeing the bad or you can guide them through the bad parts and teach them.

Funny. I reported it (when I posted) and five minutes later it was gone.

We have one computer in our house and it is an open area, not closed off behind a door. I run our home alone, 90% of the time and have four children. It is not feasible for me to sit alone with each of them while they are using the computer. I didn't think it was necessary and thought sites like YouTube were more censored...I was wrong, that's why my kids are no longer allowed to use it!
