I was awarded two scholarships from JCC for the fall. I need to write a thank you note to the doners. How should I write it--should it be hand written on personal stationary or should it be a more formal typed letter? I can't get in touch witht he financial aid specialist--I guess she is on vacation this week so I thought I would come here for info. Has anyone else on the board received a JCC scholarship? How did you write the thank you letter? Thanks for your input
Thanks Handwritten was my first thought--but I did not want to look silly if that was not proper. I am so happy about the scholarships I want to bake the doners a pie and take it to them!
A handwritten note to the contributors (donors) is best. Congratulations! I like sample #2: http://www.collegescholarships.org/scholarships/thank-you-samples.htm Another site: http://www.thank-you-note-examples-and-tips.com/scholarship-thank-you-letter.html
:iagree: It may sound old school, yet it is effective. And if your handwriting is 'suspect'..practice writing out your note in long hand until it's legible, and then do your best writing on the note you plan to mail.
My daughter went to JCC and earned 2 Associates Degrees. She received 4 scholarships (one for each year) and always wrote a handwritten note of thanks for the scholarship, and also included how the scholarship would help her and what her goals were for the future and that the scholarship was greatly appreciated!!! Congrats to you!!!
When I got scholarships from JCC, I handwrote the notes. You should also have a chance to thank them in person at the Scholarship Luncheon held later this year (in case you want to take them that pie! LOL)
Another vote for handwritten...I wrote one for everything I received whether it was $50 or $5k. I received a memorial scholarship "back in the day" and the donors were so appreciative of my letter that I got a call from them the following day. Nice people. Btw, CONGRATS!!
A typed letter doesn't display the personal touch that a hand written thank you letter can deliver. It shows you took the time to sit down and put your thoughts on paper. A typed letter just means you didn't take the time and are in a hurry to say thank you. I agree with everyone up above. Always hand write a thank you letter as a best practice. Actually for anything that is personal, heart felt, or angry. Hand write the letter.
