It's worth the drive to Sneads Ferry for good seafood. There's also a place there on the left after you cross the bridge to get onto the island that's good. I can't think of the name of it right now.
Is it Sears Landing you are thinking of? It is good for casual dining and on the water. http://www.searslanding.com/ And in Snead's Ferry we go to the Riverview Cafe (think fried and very casual), but that is when we stay in North Topsail. It is a haul from the south end. We have also been to the Green Turtle in Snead's Ferry, but found it to be eh...http://www.riverviewcafe.net/
We've been going to the Riverview Cafe since I was a little girl! They have the best fried shrimp ever!!! It is a haul from the South end. I think Sears Landing is the one I'm thinking of by the bridge. On certain nights, it's a long wait if you get there after 5:00. That's always a good sign! If there's no wait at the beach in the summer, I worry!
It is good shrimp at the cafe! And I agree with the no wait thing. That's why we always make reservations at Beauchaines211. If you don't, you have to wait a while. Sears Landing is crazy busy too...and good! Great, now I want to go to TI!
