Well, I am here to say that when I went to see Farenheit 911 in Pensacola the theater was adamant about her not going into that movie. They did that to a few other teens in line, as well.

I would not stand next to you against the protesters because I am sure my car would hit that billboard and knock it down.

    Clif,

Below is a scene from the tv show Designing Women:

A nearby newsstand selling pornography offends Julia to the point where she drives her car straight through it. This pits her against an equally determined publisher in the ensuing court battle.

(Suzanne and Charlene meet with the female editor of a men's magazine)

Terry: Actually, I'm a feminist and I and my magazine make large contributions to feminist charities.

Suzanne: Yeah, well I donate to the ASPCA, but that doesn't make me a cat!

    Charlene: Good one!

Terry: Just so you know Mrs. Sugarbaker, this is still America, and free speech will always be protected.

Julia: I know it will. But pornography won't always be, Miss Wilder. This country will let the Nazis speak, and the Ku Klux Klansmen speak because as despicable as their statements are, they are speaking their mind. But when you publish your magazine, you're not speaking your mind. You'd shut that magazine down tomorrow if it weren't turning a profit. You know it and I know it. Pornography is not free speech, it's commerce. Otherwise you couldn't zone it out of certain nice areas of the city.

Terry: Well, I see I am getting nowhere. We're both business women. Let's just leave it at that. I won't bother you, and you won't bother me.

Julia: No, that's not quite right, Miss Wilder. You bother me very much. I know I can be sanctimonious and self-righteous, but nevertheless I've just gotta say it. Shame on you for calling yourself a feminist. And shame on you for hurting and demeaning women everywhere -- all for a lousy nickel. I may not be able to stop you today, but someday...we're going zone you right out of the city. And then we're gonna zone you right out of the county and then we're going to zone you right out of the country. And in fact, Miss Wilder, if I had my way, we might just zone you right off the globe.

The fact that it happened does not mean they were in the right.

So, you are against censoprship unless it's censoring something you're personally against. Putting a smiley after your statement does not mean it's ok either. If you are for freedom of speech, it must be all speech, even the stuff you personally disagree with.

Ultimately, Sherry, you are no better than the ones you argue with. You have your own agenda and damn anyone who disagrees with you.

Oh, and your little "scene from Designing Women" doesn't make censorship right either. Yes there are people who make money off prornography, including women. But there are also people (including women) who buy ot and enjoy it. If you censor it, then you are infringing upon others' rights of their "persuit of happiness".

Pornograpy does not "demean" women any more than the Chipendale Dancers demean men. Instead of listening to a bunch of self described sanctimoneous women, how about you ask some of those demeaned women what they think. Once they finish counting their hundreds of dollars per night for dancing, or thousands per film acting, they might stop laughing at you long enough to tell you they are not demeaned but empowered. They are in control of their bodies and are doing what they please with them, and making a tidy profit in the process.

You, Sherry, have argued that a woman should be able to do with her body what she likes (when it comes to abortion), but God forbid she should actually do something with her body that men might enjoy and she can make some money too.

It would appear "freedom of speech" to most people means "free to say anything I agree with".

    Clif,

The reason I put that my car would probably hit the billboard and put the smiley face is because I was thinking of the Designing Women episode that I copied and put on here. I thought you would laugh like I did. In reality....not joking now....I would not like the billboard but understand freedom of speech. I would talk to the owner and ask them to move it due to me not liking it but not based on censorship.

Seriously...I was having a good time in my last few posts.

Ri-i-ight, I think censorship and gender warfare is downright hilarious.

Yep, easy to backtrack now that you've been called out.

Where? What indication is there, other than a smiley face you posted that you could later use as a "King's X", that you were just "having a good time"? You went from complaining about censorship at a "Farenheit 911" viewing to a serious scene from designing women (the show was a comedy, but the scene you presented was intended to be serious).

Sherry, i'll ask you (although I know it's futile) to just admit that you live in a world of double standards. Censorship is unacceptable, unless it's censoring something you don't agree with. Women should be allowed to do with their own bodies whatever they feel is right, as long as it's not what you deem to be pornographic.

Sherry, do not let anyone bully you into not having an opinion. I enjoy reading your posts, for what it's worth. Not everyone agrees all the time - this is a forum setting that is here for us to sound off if we want to. Why are there people who jump on our cases and criticize what we have to say? It is a hurtful thing to do, and just isn't nice. Maybe I'll get "picked apart", too. But so what, say what you feel the need to say. It is kind of disconcerting, in my opinion, to have someone follow a person's post so closely. Sort of like stalking, waiting for someone to contradict himself. Reminds me of Kathy Bates in "Misery"...JMHO

Are you insane and do you EVER read the Political Pit? You are off your rocker!! Sherry is the very first to try and pick apart everyone else by quoting 10 other liberal sites and acts like it's her picking it apart. Please read a little more. You are way off on this reaction. Especially about that crack pot.

Putting the smiley was to show you I was joking around but once again you take it too far. I believe in freedom of speech even for those who are hate filled, in my opinion.

No Clif, that would be you. Actually it is probably a little of both of us.

Actually Clif, the Designing Women show was what came to my mind when I saw your post and I laughed, just like I laughed when I first saw the show. We have discussed pornography before and I believe we decided it was in the eye of the beholder.

And, how about you go ask some of them if they have ever seen human trafficking.

Thanks and I will not let anyone bully me. I'd stop the conversation if that was happening.

Actually, Clif and I are friends and we push one another to think in different directions. It's the choir that gets old.

Condemning an entire industry because of a few "bad apples"?

I've marked your words about censorship and will throw them back at you the next time you make a comment that appears in favour. (So watch yourself. ;) )
