I remember seeing an episode of "Pawn stars" where a woman had a dollar bill that had Clark Gables signature and a bunch of the other guys in his platoons names on it. I forget what that was called or why. I was going to put my new title away and found an old 1953 Silver Certificate from Hawaii (before it became a state). I noticed on the back a few names and locations on it. Locations that are written are Ewa, Hawaiian Is - Palmyra - Pago Pago Somaa Is. A couple of the names are Short Snorter "Luigi", Bob Sirars. There are a few other names but those are the only two I can really read. Any idea what it may be worth or what they call it when our military sign the back of a dollar bill. Thanks
I always look at EBAY, it's a good indicator of what people are paying. I don't see an exact match and at a quick glance there are no signatures which can probably make a big difference. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_kw=Silver+Certificate+Hawaii
Rocky, Something interesting I didn't know... Here's an explanation of a short snorter... http://www.shortsnorter.org/ And it seems, that because of the story, the short snorters are worth a bit more than the average note. Surprisingly there are quite a few from Hawaii on Ebay... http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=short+snorter&_armrs=1&_from=R40&_ipg=&_trksid=m37 I would visit the short snorter site and look thru the roll call and see if you can recognize any of the names. What a neat story!
Thanks JenniferK, Didn't realize I was looking at what the bill was called "short snorter" Scanned in the dollar bill and tried to upload it to photobucket but for some reason it wasn't allowing me to navigate to where the pictures were so I had to upload it to picpaste.com instead. Here is the bill. I would really be curious what it would be worth, Currently no thought about selling it. http://picpaste.com/ShortSnorter000-XAVoTAMr.jpg http://picpaste.com/ShortSnorter001-NVk1bfEk.jpg
Sorry, Got a bit ahead of myself. Photobucket was just ****ing me off and wasn't thinking straight. That's my story and I'm sticking to it LOL Again sorry for the confusion in names
It's all good! I don't like photobucket either. Honestly, unless there is someone famous on it, it's probably not worth more than $50 max...but since you aren't interested in selling it, that's okay. It's a neat little piece of history. I have some lire from Tripolitania (which is now Lybia) that my Granddaddy brought back from the war. It's worth about a hundred bucks (maybe), but I wouldn't sell it. Like I said, a neat piece of history!
I got this bill back in about 1976 from a high school buddy. He needed to borrow my car and was going to put a couple of bucks of gas in it but when he brought it back he said he was short on cash but handed me this bill in lew of payment of gas. And I have held on to it ever since. I keep it in one of those plastic bill holders (to keep bills in good condition) and I keep it in my fire proof safe with my birth certificate and car title.
